Nope, that's on the other side of the motor. I think this has something to do with the air cleaner, I just don't know what.

72 350's had two oil filler holes, one on the left rear with a tube sticking up, the other on the right front. With factory ac the one on the right is covered up by the compressor.

I concur with teamroper!
Also watch for at least 2 different styles of filler. The one pictured maybe van version. It looks long and has a funny angle.

I had an original '72 1/2 ton with air. It had that tube. It is just an oil filler tube, and the height makes it easier to get the oil in so you don't have to dodge the booster.

Any unmolested truck I've seen with power brakes and A/C had the oil filler tube...they usually never make it back on if the motor has been changed

Yup, just an oil filler tube, I've seen them on all models not just 4x4's or trucks with a/c.

Hmmm...never seen one on a truck that didn't have power brakes and A/C. No A/C you could put the oil in om the passenger side...no power brakes and the drivers side was easy to get to. I bought my truck in 84 with 40k on the clock...it was pretty untouched. It had factory A/C and manual brakes...no filler tube

I haven't been on the board for a while, so I was surprised to see a picture of my engine in a post. Guess I better check the board more often. The "pipe" in question is indeed an oil filler tube. I don't know how many models w/ AC had this tube, but it is definently original to this engine and the engine is original to my 72 GMC, Maych. Hope this clears up the issue.
Perchjerker, thanks for asking about me. I sent a reply to your message. I probably wouldn't have checked the board if you hadn't email me.

In my 71 with the 307, it is all original, has power brakes, no A/C, and has an oil filler tube on the driverside rear valve cover.
