in need of the opinion of the wiser than i

Guys, I need what it says, your opinion.

I'm frustrated due to the fact that my 68 got hit and i'm having to try to drive a busted pickup till i can get another one (in that i mean another 68 or 67).

The guy I bought my 68 from has a 67 for sale for $300.00. It needs some work before i go driving it. Like: new master cylinder, brakes, motor out of the 68 put in, the shifter linkage put back in, exaust, pain job. seat reatached, rear bumper reatached. grill put in, rocker panels put in, new floor on both sides, and a few other little things. I have a grill, bumper, linkage, anything i might need is from the 68 but i have to drive it in the mean time, what should i do? thanks for your imput, be honest and give it to me!

Grab it, and thrash on the two in the garage untill you can drive one of them to work. Sleep can wait, so can paint.

Pick up all the spare parts that you can't rape off your '68 from the salvage yard....assemble the '67, then swap motors in a weekend and hopefully be on the road. Might want to take a short vacation though.....it may take some time to get the bugs out of a truck that has been sitting for quite some time.

I say jump on it. Things always have a way of working out with enough effort.

You need a driver, not a project. Spend a little more and get something you can actually use. The $300 for another project is just that. About the same cost as a pair of new fenders.

I say do the deal. Your saving a truck destined for the crusher, and putting together a truck you will know every nut and bolt about.

I think it depends on your ability. I am not a good enough mechanic, welder, or craftsman to finish the job in a few days.
If it were me, I would spend the cash on a small mid to late 90's economy car (that runs) that would get me through.
I have to say though that a lot of people on this board are much more automotively inclined than myself.

If you damaged truck isn't your only truck...I'd go for it and combine the two...

the damaged 68 is drivable i've just got to find a way to hold the headlight in (ducktape just poped into my mind and zipties red green???) and put a new radiatior in it. I have some thign to drive but its the other i'm worried about. i don't have a trailer or tow hitch to tow it with to go have it painted or body work, i could paint it but its the body work i have no clue about. Keep throwing out ideas.

the only thing i want done to the 67 before i drop the motor in to it is paint it inside and out.

As my wifey told me last night, slow down, you don't have to do it all in one week end.

Sorry if you already mentioned this in another thread, but...

How damaged is the '68? Maybe use parts off the '67 to fix it, unless the frame is bent bad?

But.....a small economy car isn't a bad idea....much cheaper to keep on the road than an old truck, although nowhere near as cool and fun as the old truck....
