? about factory assembly manuals
I obtained an assy. manual a short while back (actually bought it new). I was disappointed to find GM numbers removed, and the option codes and other info removed from the bottom of ea. page.
My question: are there "real" ones being sold with this information, and if so, who carries them. I've got several for first gen. Camaros, and these manuals include this info. Thanks for your input. |

I got one a few years back and was disappointed with it too. There seems to be no apparent order to the pages. Plenty of info. though, if you have all day to find what your looking for. Poor quality paper too since it has yellowed in 3 years.

I hear you guys.....That really sucks. From what I have heard from other people, you can thank Golden State Pickup Parts for removing the part numbers. That was told to me by a Golden State employee at the Reno Hot August Nights swapmeet about five years ago. They have since changed ownership and moved from So. Cali to Northern Nevada. I have the same type manuals for Corvettes and all of the part numbers are still in there. I have used those part numbers many times to buy parts from the local GM counter. It appears someone got greedy and wanted to make it difficult to buy from GM. Too bad we don't have a section on this board to post known valid GM part numbers for reference.

Seems like the people selling reprints are leaving things out.......maybe it has to be done for the rights to reprint....?

Golden State Pickup Parts used to sell a separate Parts Manual when they first reprinted both of these references. Why would anyone buy a parts manual if the part numbers are included in the assembly manual? It doesn't appear many people bought them anyway, there aren't many around. Most of them I've seen are original GM and the sellers want a small fortune for them but they are out there.

I've bought an Assembly Manual. Why does'nt it have an index or Table of Contents ?If it was a factory assembly manual, would'nt an index speed up production?

My thoughts too on the Assembly Manual.
Between no index, and the way things are placed in the book I waste alot of time trying to find things..
