Bed Swap

Have just about decided but thought I'd get some opinions.
Can't decide on which bed to put on truck. Here it is with
92 ss bed. Need to do some adjusting.

Here is a pic of the bed I pulled off. Only thing I don't like is the
cut-out for spare. Bed dent/rust free. I have removed rotten
wood bed bought new stainless strips,lights,chains etc from
LMC but when son wrecked his truck I was talked into trying
his bed?

Also if I use new or old bed I want to relocate fuel tank to
underneath bed. Have seen several threads on doing this
just can't decide which way to go. Leaning towards using a
blazer or camaro tank. I also pulled 350 out of totaled truck
and plan on using it. Have new fuel sending unit that goes
in tank so I'll need a tank that will fit in or another option.
Looks like evertime I start something here I open a whole
new can of worms.

Personally, i would sell the late model bed, and run the stock one. Short steps flat out rock.

I totally agree. I would run the stocker and sell the late model. By the way. Once upon a time, I ran a S10 gas tank inbetween my frame rails in the back and the install was very easy. It fit perfectly between the rails and only needed straps to hold it in from the bottom. I saw you mentioning the tank and am not sure which ones people have suggested, but I know that works. It was from an older S10 because I did that back in the 90's

Personally I like that later model bed- Tubbed!

the late model bed. Stick to the original bed. It looks much better. I wouldn't be able to stand looking at the two different wheel openings. OR use the late model bed and change the wheel opening. Later, FCG

Hmmmmm, 3 to 1 so far on keeping orig. bed. maybe I could
either get a new fender for cut out or some kind of filler plate.
Might have to look into that. Basically I need to get it all one
color but not gonna finish painting til I decide.

I would try to make the late model bed wheel well's fit the truck first and then swap the bed's. I f that did not work you could alway's use the stocker bed..

Go with the original! You can't beat a short stepside. The lines on the late model bed just don't match without a lot of work.

I like both, but I prefer the original bed. Your's appears to be in better shape that what I started with, so it shouldn't be too bad to get it looking good. I am also one the says keep the spare cut out! Be different and have the spare in a convienient place. Give it that nostalgic look.

Don't know how fast they sell up in Jackson area, but the late model beds don't move real fast on the coast.

Far as an out of cab tank, one of the blazer kits or have a fuelcell made for it. I don't think the camaro's fit in the frames very well.

Another vote for stock - but I also prefer no spare cutout. If the rest of the bed is good, I'd try to find another fender.

I like the stock bed. I had the spare cutout. I like it. It really depends on how you want it to look.

Go with the late model bed so you can give me the old one! I like the old bed better and if you use it then I couldn't get it from ya! oops!! I think I said too much.

I vote Stock Box Too...I personally don't have much a problem with the spare cut out fenders but it would look cleaner without a spare sitting there. Even with a newer Stepside box, If i had a pretty decent Stock Box (which it looks you have) I would be trying to make that work first.....

You cannot go wrong with stock. Sell the new bed and use the money to fix your old bed!!!!!

I vote for keeping the stock box and getting a different drivers fender. I have a friend up here that may be interested in your modern step bed, or at least the passenger bedside for his 91 4X4 with a chunk out of it from a tree. What are you asking for it?

I say sell them both and get an original fleetside box for it they look the best.

i say new bed, but either way you go, if you sell the original's fender i may be interested (or in both and the front panel if you use the new bed)
