Post AC Compressor has part missing from pulley/clutch

My '96 Tahoe has a cover or some other part missing from the face of the compressor pulley. I don't know what was there, but it is evident that there was some type of cover or something there. You can see the outline on the face of the pulley.

I bought the truck from a local Ford dealer and bought a three year warranty. There is around 2 years and 20,000 miles left on the warranty. The mechanic there looked at it and irritated me a little when he told me common sense would tell you that if the compressor clutch works and the AC inside works that there is nothing wrong. One thing is for sure, he now has the common sense to not tell me about common sense.

Sooooo, Is he right in saying that there is nothing to worry about?

Has anyone else seen this type of problem?

Thanks,

I just looked at my pulley and there is no cover on it. The center of the pulley has a threaded bolt sticking out of a threaded hole. The bolt is about a 5/16 and the hole is about 5/8. The face of the pulley has a raised portion that is round and looks like it has three tabs that stick towards the outside edge of the pulley at equal distances around it. There are a few hole in the face of the pulley in various spots, but I saw no evidence of a cover. Mine is a 98, but I'm sure they use the same compressor. I will look at my buddies 95 tonite and reply to you if his is any different.

I checked my brother-in-laws 98 truck and saw that there was a paper thin black cover on his compressor. I have about decided to not worry about it but watch it pretty close since it is under warranty.

Thanks.
