Question Engine Swap

Hi , I have a 1989 Chevy 1500 2wd with a 4.3 v-6 and a four speed auto transmission . My question is I want to swap in a 305 or 350 . How much trouble is this and what all do I have to change out . I was told that my throttle body will bolt right up to the V-8 intake . Is this true . Any help will be greatly appreciated .

4.3 v-6 Throttle body injected . Free flow Turbo exhaust system .
four speed auto .
86 Rally wheels 15x8
RED with Gray interior .
All original and in very good condition , like going back to 89 .

This is basically a bolt in. The throttle body will bolt up and should flow the same as a 305(350 is a little bigger as I recall). I am not sure about the 700R4 transmission behind a V6 in a Full size, but the S10 one isn't strong enough to hold up to a V8 for any lenght of time. Other then that, all the accessories bolt up as the front of the 4.3 is the same as a V8. You will need a V8 shroud and radiator, and motor mounts. Easiest way is to find a complete wrecked truck and just move everything over.

The mounts may be the same, call a parts store and cross referance them. I would hesitate on the throttle body. The 4.2 is only 262 (ish) cubic inches.Your talking 40 cubes between the two motors. The easiest way is to put on a carb, the best way if you really want the injection, is to get one out of a wrecked truck. You may need the harness and puter too though.

longhornmail,
If he got higher flow injectors & thus a higher flow fuel pump would he still be able to use the throttle body??
