1" or 1.25" rotors?
My truck is a 72, and I need to know if it has 1" or 1.25" rotors. I'm looking to order some drop spindles, and found a good deal on some for 71-87's. Is it true that I'll only need to change the lower ball joints to get them to fit?

What kind of drop spindle is 71-87? Most quality drop spindles are direct bolt in with no changes and year specific 63-70, 71-72, 73up etc.

i thought the tie rod ends were different from 71-72 and 73-87...
i know some of the 73-87 are 1.25" and some are 1.00" rotors. usually the 1.00" thick rotors were on 81 up from what i have seen. |

You better check the aplication on those spindles befor you buy them. The 1" & 1 1/2" spindles translate to 1" = Light duty, 1 1/2" = Heavy Duty, and are specific to 73-87 and NOT 71-72. This is how the 1/2 ton spindles are catigorized:
60-62 63-70 71-72 73-87 Light Duty 73-87 Heavy Duty Tommy is right about the tie rod ends also. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Sorry guys made a mistake. They are 73-87 spindles. My brother works at an autoparts store, and from what he looked up, the upper balljoints are the same, but the lowers are different. I see that I'll need to change the tie rod ends as well. Anything else?

i put 73-87 spindles actually 76 spindles with 1.25" rotors on my 70 chevy 1/2 ton (switched from drum) i used the 76' upper and lower ball joints. and i used a tie rod adapter from cpp (classic performance products) i believe. it uses a stock 70' outer tire rod as the inner tie rod, and uses the stock 76' outer tie rod as the outer.
i don't know what you have to do on a 71-72 center link though. i have heard that the 71-72 center links are different than the 67-70 ones. but all i know for sure is what i did on my truck. |
