spare tire when getting larger tires

I wasn't sure which subgroup to post this to, but since in a roundabout way it is related to lifts, I posted it here.

If I'm moving from stock 225/75/15 tires (28.3" tall) to 32x11.5x15 do I need to get a bigger spare?

What would happen if I don't? If I needed it, is that fix a flat stuff any good (where I could get by w/o needing a spare much).

Keep in mind I'm just doing it for the looks, not really for offroading.

The fix a flat stuff is good if you use it once to get home and that is it. Then concider your tire junk beacuse i don't think you will be able to rebalance it ever again. i think?

What kind of differential(s) do you have? If they are open diff(s), then you can get by just fine with a smaller tire for a spare, it will just look a little funny when you use it. If you have any other sort of differential (regular limited slip, locker, spool, etc) then you can have problems with different sized tires.

Most of the time I'm not far from home, so I don't bother carrying a spare. For longer trips, I keep a narrow wheel that I got from a junkyard with a tire that is the same height as my normal wheels.

Mine just has a cheap old peeling chromed steel wheel with a matching size used tyre, as supplied by previous owner. Will get me home at normal speed though. The spay can stuff is OK but once you've used it the tyre can't be repaired or rebalanced so is scrap, not what you may want on a nearly new tyre. You will also need some kind of pump as they won't inflate a truck tyre enough.

The diff. is open.

Thanks for the info... Yes, an old tire of the same height is a good idea.

i run a 31" spare, and 32"s on the truck, the 31 was the best off the last set of tires i had. a too small of tire will have adverse effects on the truck while driving.. but you got to do what you got to do.
