factory alarm

I've got an '89 suburban 1/2 ton 2wd. Does anybody have any info on the factory alarm? It doesn't work any more and I'd like to figure out why.

Thanks.

There is no factory alarm. What is the problem you are talking about? What make you think it had a factory alarm?

Actually it really does have a Delco alarm in there. The key-fob has a big chevy emblem on there an all.

The problem is the alarm doesn't do anything anymore. I can't arm it.

I don't want it for the alarm really, but it was nice to have for keyless entry.

In 89 GM put an alarm in made by Code Alarm. It had the GM name on the remote and brain to the alarm, which is under the dash on the drivers side, but it was really just an after market Code alarm 1500 that was added by the dealer. The remote has a battery in it make sure that is still good. If you need a new remote I do know that the remote from the code alarm will work it just depends on if it has the dipswitches in it or not. Most of them have a bypass switch under the dash it is like a toggle switch that will turn the alarm on and off. Turn the key on and flip then turn the key back off and see if it will work then.

That is an interesting tidbit of info. As with alot of alarms, the keyfob's battery will die. When it dies, it can loose the code & be out of sync when you put a new battery in. (This is for electonic code alarms, not the older sliding switch type) To re-sync, you need to flip the switch or push the button in a certain pattern then hit a button on the keyfob to re-sync. Let's see if we can dig up an owners manual or alarm handbook to find the pattern. Call 1-800-421-3209 (Code Alarm Technical support) to see if they can help you.

apstguy,

I just saw your message after my last post. Thanks for the codealarm 800 number. I'll give them a call. Thanks!

Funny thing is that I've put this off for about 3 years because the dealer couldn't tell me anything and I didn't know where to go from there.

Thanks!!!
