GMC long step side?
Did GMC ever make a long wheel base step side? I am currently restoring a 70 GMC that had a utility bed on it and want to put a long step side on instead.

Yes they did, there is one back home that I see on the road now and then and have talked to the owner who says it's an all original '70 k-2500 long step side. They aren't too common I bet but they're out there.

I'm going to do the exact same thing. Except mine will be a 71 Chevy w/ a GMC front clip and a 67 long step. Look in the pictures forum under "all the 4x4s" there's a couple, on about page 8.

jaycom102002, is your 70 a one ton? If so, you'll have a hard time getting a bed. The one tons take a 9 foot step side. GMC had 8 foot beds on the 1/2 ton and 3.4 ton, and then the 9 foot step on the one ton. Is the utility bed original? If so, you may well have the bed you are looking for already. Many of the utility beds on old trucks (72 and older) are actually step sides with the steps removed and boxes bolted on. I've seen 5 like that.
Welcome to the board, this is THE place for information on these rigs. |

Here is a picture of the 70 GMC long step parts truck I have. It has Koenig (before Rawson!) bedsides on the factory long step bed making it a "utility" bed. COol thing about it is the very low sides and full size bed. I am planning on making a trailer out of it and paint it like my 70 GMC long fleet.

man I like that setup, if I was a mobile repair guy id drive one of those fully restored, with my company on the doors, oh I can picture it now...... there is one 8 foot long stepside GMC 3/4 4x4 in town, pretty sweet truck, personally I think they look cool, but most people find them ugly

I like them too...defenitly different!
The first longstep i saw was a '75 or so. I have only seen 2 longstep '73-87 trucks, and 2 longstep 67-72 trucks. Defeinitly not alot out there....
