I have a set like the ones pictured that I would sell. One fin has a chipped place though. I don't know what they are worth, I guess make me an offer if you are interested.

Those didn't come with oil filler holes. Those are late 50's early 60's staggered bolt valvecovers. The oilfill/breather on those smallblocks was in the oil fill tube at the front of the motor. That's why you see so many of those Cal-Custom covers with side-mounted "elbow" breathers from Eelco, Moon, or Offy. I have a set of these being powdercoated right now, and will mount some Moon elbow breathers to them.

I have a set of Cal Custom valve covers with the oil fill holes, but the fins are somewhat thinner than the ones in that picture.
50 bucks. I can supply pictures if you're interested.

I appreciate it Tx Firefighter, but thats a little steep for me right now. To be honest, I priced new ones at the Super Chevy Show last fall for $60. I plan on going to the Autofair in Charlotte in April. I hope to find a decent, cheap set there, if someone doesn't come up with a set here. Superchevy You're right those are offset covers. I just want a set that is finned just like that, with the oil hole for a small block chevy. Thanks guys for your help........Jerry

The only valve covers I have seen with breathers or oil fill holes in like those have been home altered jobs.

It's hard to find a good pair of the early style Cal Customs, with the late straight across bolt pattern, that have not had the fins ground down for alternator clearance. Or not pitted or cracked. You'll see them sell on eBay for good money.
I've found it hard to get a good deal on swapmeet stuff anymore as everyone seems to be internet hooked-up, and they know what they can get on eBay for their stuff. Get there early and find someone who doesn't know what they have. SC |

Yeah, you're right SuperChevy. You can find some stuff at swap meets, but it's getting harder to find really good deals. While a lot of people are dealing internet-wise now, I still think that being able to work with someone face-to-face and being able to put cash in their hand right then still has it's advantages. How many times have you "sold" a part online and then after waiting for the cash for a week or so, the buyer backs out. Just my thoughts on it. If need be, I will just buy a new set. There is a company out there now that is reproducing them in a polished aluminum for around $60-65. I saw them at the Super Chevy Show in Va last year, just didn't have the cash to throw at them right then. I'm hoping to come across somene on here that has an old set in their garage, and they don't mind giving me a deal on. Thanks, guys.......Jerry

Here are the pics of mine. Both covers have a chipped place. The bolt holes are not offset.

I had an original pair of Offenhouser's with an oil fill on the top of one. They were powder coated bright silver, sold them at one of my yard sales for $100.00. The buyer was happy to get them at that price.

I think the offset ones are for 55-57 heads, can anyone else verify the years that the "offset" ones will fit?

Two thoughts:
First, '70s corvettes (I know at least 75 L82s) had finned polished aluminum valve covers with the correct number of holes. Second, Edelbrock sells polished cast aluminum covers with 2 holes as well. They are SWEET -- I just bought a pair for my Vortec heads. Brian |
