So the machine shop killed my original block. Well actually the metalergy was so bad when they bored it the block just kinda fell apart. So a fair warning to everyone, WATCH OUT FOR MEXICO BLOCKS!!! That said the machine shop said it was the second time they had ever seen that happen. You should have seen the cylinder walls......

Anyways I scored last night. A complete high tin/high nickle shortblock, stock bore, 4 bolt mains for $125!!! YES!!!! Too bad it has to go .060" to fit all my stuff

Also my rods at the machine shoped turned out to be 5.56" rods, so the new 5.7"s in this motor will work nicley. Hey I figured since eric gets to post random tibits of info about his new motor [i orderd a starter!] I should too!

I haven’t been following the saga but if you can take the .060 over stuff back and trade it for .030 stuff I would to keep from going that far on the block and save some if you have to at a later date.

Eddie, no idea, it was .040" over and that had 30,000miles on it.

Chevy67tk- I had bought .030" over pistons and rings because when I tore down the motor there were no overbore markings on the pistons. Turns out motor was already .040, so I exchanged the pistons and sold the rings at a loss to fund the new rings. Im not doing it over again and losing more money I dont have to spend

i think .06 is fine. my 400 is .04 and there is MUCH less room between the bores than a 350. my last 350 was .06 also and no problems. as long as check your block before they start on it

Watch out for Mexico blocks................HA
That is VERY well known and it is also why I laugh at anyone with Vortec heads........they are made down there too.

Im not worried about going .060" on a 350 block, especailly a 1970 350 block. I just hate killing a standerd bore engine

Im not worried about the heads, they are perfect. Its wierd, because the best ford 302 roller blocks are mexico castings, they have more nickle.

don't bore the block if you don't have to esp.a 400, gets to thin on the siemisied part of the cylnder wall, just bore the block the minimuim possiable to clean it up, the less the better, you won't loose that much to sell your pistions, esp. if you dont use the 5.56 rods, those suck, angles are bad, causing lots of side thrust(bad), go for at least 5.7in of 6in rods. Don't get in a hurry and rush things, should checked the block had ready to go before buying pistions ect. Some of us have to learn the hard way. At any rate my dad just build a 377(400 destroked to 3.5scat crank actulally a 380) and the block he had was bad, but found anouther one. He's got 6in rods, roller cam, alum heads air gap mainford, hi cap. oil with windage tray and crank scraper, etc, ect.
So you live and learn, then spend more money.

My 350 is .060" over.... a little over 30k and it runs great. Would do it again no problem (block is out of a '73-'76 passenger car), but i would rather go .030" over if i had the option. JMO

i also laugh at someone dumb enough to waste perfectly good money on doorstops that they try to pass off as heads. my Vortecs will probably outflow any cast head you've got.

Eric, they outflow your holley's :p

I love vortecs.....put em up to about 185cc ports in mods and you have as good or slightly better flow then fastburns witout huge 210cc ports, great for torque. They are releasing a 200cc intake port version of the iron vortec soon too....should be interesting.
