Should I trade my C10 for an S10?

I have been seriously considering trading/selling my C10, and taking the money and buying a newer (97+) S10/Sonoma Std. Cab V6/Automatic....would you do it? How much can those trucks be had for? Maybe I can just BUY an S10, then put my truck in storge (Since gas prices are now $2 a gallon for 87!)

I think an older S-10 (less emissions to mess with) with a small block would be nice, but not as cool as a full size classic (pre-87 truck, pre-91 sub/blazer).


I think your truck looks great. I am guessing you are just getting an itch for something different. Don't do anything rash.

A early model S10, with a bone stock exterior, hubcaps, single exhaust (or a well hiden dual), and a V8 would be sweet for a sleeper!

Buuut...I would rather own a 73-87 anyday of the week.

In case that wasn't clear enough, I'd say "no". I'm a big fan of trucks being "trucks". I even struggle with the idea of SWB trucks (sorry folks).

I just like "BIG" trucks - - and no, I'm not compensating...

Besides, I don't know you Tim, but from what I've seen/read, you've obviously put a fair amount of work into your ride, and have even bigger plans for the future. Why get rid of it now? I understand the fuel issue, but I'd say if you can see your way past it, keep the full size.



PS If you must sell/trade, at least your not talking about getting a Ranger...

Hmm..maybe I'll just do a 700R4 swap...then cut out the 4.11's and put in some 3.55's. Then maybe I can get decent gas mileage (since my C10 is about as light as an S10!)

Not to be rude... but how much money do you think you could get for your truck? These trucks are dime a dozen and nobody is gonna pay top dollar for a project truck. My truck had 10k sunk into it and I got it for 5500.

If you want milage, get some decent injection going. Get some nice overdrive with decent gears. They are raping us in california with gas prices right now, nothing is really gonna change soon either. They know they can get away with it and they will. You just gotta bite the bullet and do it. Gas milage isnt the most important thing to me. Having a ride im proud of any really like is more important.

You have sunk TONS of time and thought into your ride, finish the job and be proud of your hard work.

I've had both. I would strongly reccomend you keep the C10!! They are just soo much cooler!

Don't get me wrong, my mom has a '01 S10 4x4 crewcab and i love that truck. 22mpg, 4x4, and pretty comfortable. However, i feel much more comfortable in my fullsize.

Wait until you have to do a tuneup on a 4.3 S10....on my 4.3 equipped '91 i remember it taking me and my dad like 3 hours to change the sparkplugs. PITA becasue that motor is cramped in there so tight. I hear you have to drop the inner fender on the '94-up trucks.

BTW the '01 ways MORE than my fullisze, longbed '72 C10.

if i were you i would drive the saturn you already have-drive it and keep the truck as a playtoy/weekend driver type deal.i personally dont care for S-10's myself-i would drive one over walking dont get me wrong but i wouldnt get rid of a C-10.like someone else said there more or less a dime a dozen so if you did sell it and also with gas prices as high as they are-i seriously doubt anyone will be beating down your door to buy it.so basically keep and drive your saturn and park the C-10,do what needs or you want done to it and enjoy your hard work on it.

Yeah, go ahead and get one. But the only problem with that is you won't be able to get your two 300 lb buddies in there with you and go cruising.

I guess you could go cruising in the Saturn.

You couldn't run fast enough to make me drive another mini truck. I had a 87 Mazda B2000 I bought new. It was a good truck and no problems, but just too small for me and I'm not a big person.

Yeah...I guess I'll keep my truck...but it isn't my playtoy, the vette was my original toy, then it became a daily driver, then my truck was my toy, now my truck is my daily driver with my vette my toy...then there's the saturn, that is also a daily driver...I'm just trying to move out ASAP and only have 2 cars instead of three..guess I'll have to decide between my saturn and my truck...PSSSHHH! TRUCK!
Now, to make the vette get 30mpg in the city...hahahaha

BTW I had a 97 Sonoma GMC truck that has the 4.3 and was extended cab. The mileage was far from good at maybe 14 mpg and had no power at that. Truck was to small also. Oh maybe that was because I had 2 15" kickers behind the seat!!

That's a very valid and practical question. Ask the folks in Europe about gasoline prices. The scary thing is that in the not so distant future we'll probably be saying stuff like "remember back when gas was "ONLY $2/gal?" One economist predicts that this summer the cost of gas will cause a "behavior modifying" change in our driving habits. Whether these gas increases are real or just greed at work, who knows what the real truth is. If I have to change to a smaller displacement, the engine layout will have to be designed to at least allow enough access to work on it.

This is said every year and it never happens. When it does, I don't see a major impact on the majority of people. In a world of Escalades and BMW's, people won't let a few more dollars stop them from owning these vehicles. JMO.

I agree. If people are willing to pay $40,000 for an SUV, they won't be too worried about paying $50 or $60 to fill it up.

It will get interesting when those vehicles eventually become cheap used vehicles. In 10 or 15 years, buyers won't want a $5000 used Escalade that costs $200 to fill up with gas. If the cost of gas keeps going up the way it has, old SUVs will have really poor resale value.
I guess the newer vehicles might not last that long anyway. Then there would be no problem...
