What would you guys do???

I sell a little on ebay, I recently sold a posi unit on there to a man. I told in the auction wat the original ratio was which was 2.56 and I mentioned you could get just about any ratio you wanted in the aftermarket. Now he emails back saying it won't work for him he has 3.73 ratio and they won't work. I have already responded with ,I gave all the information needed to make sure this unit is right for your application plus sent him the part # for the Jegs gear set that will work for the posi unit. I have nothing back from him as of yet. What do you guys think.

He should have been positivly sure before he made a bid on it. Your gain his loss. Tell him if it does not fit then put it back on Ebay and sell it to someone that will need it.

As long as you didn't lie to him, then he's obligated to buy it, end of story.

Stating in your auction that the gear ratio was 2.56, he should have known it was a series 3 carrier. Plus the fact that you CAN buy 3.73 gears that will go on a series 3. Buyer beware or buyer be aware.

No, no lies on the auction, I try to tell everything to the best of my knowledge. I would not sell something I would not use myself.

Sounds like you know about differentials and he doesn't. He took a large risk by bidding on the item in the first place. If he's not willing to take up his responsibilities as a buyer then give him a period of time to make a decision, and then re-sell the item if he doesn't reply within the specified time frame.

I sell on e-bay too and if it was me,I would just relist and bite the bullet on relisting fees...Report him as a no-pay and try and sell it again to some-one else....You still have your posi...so at least you didn't get entirely burned...a lot of rookies out there buying stuff that the have no clue about...If you sell alot on e-bay you are going to have your occasional losers,,but you have to just consider it a part of doing business..........

i agree with just trying to get him to pay for the relisting and moving on , if he won't pay then file for a non-paying bidder and in about 20days you'll be credited for the cost of the auction you should also put him on your list of blocked bidders so he can't bid on your stuff in the future

When you make a bid on e-bay, they tell you straight up that you are entering in to a contract and to make sure you really want to bid before you hit the "BID" button. Lots of folks have buyers remorse, thinking they made a mistake, paid too much, etc., but that is their responsibility. He had to see all of those same warnings.

e-Bay buyer

Let the buyer be ware when the seller has given all the right scoop. I don't think you owe the person anything.

His mistake should not be borne by you.

thx, JDY

Its not that he would not pay, he did. Now that he has the posi he said it is not going to work for his setup.

He should have known before he bid on it. You can be nice and buy it back, but you're not obligated to buy it back.

74,

Ah, so he paid and he has the merchandise? If he won't listen to you, I'd suggest an e:mail like the following:

Here are the part numbers I found from <company name> that would work for you in this application. If you find that you are still unable to get the posi to work for you, I think your best bet would be to re-list it and recoup the loss.

Love and best fishes,

74

If it really wouldn't work for him, you'd be a nice guy to take it back from him, minus the cost of shipping and re-listing. If it WILL work for him, and he's being a bolt-head, then he can sell it himself. Not that difficult, knowing that you already wrote up everything about it.

bpmcgee I have emailed him with the part # of the gears from Jegs. He had already told me they don't make the 3.73 ratio for the 10 bolt GM, is he joking.

Anyway I want him off my back, I emailed him to say I will refund his money but I am charging him for the auction plus $10.00 for my time, does that sound fair. I only threw the $10.00 for my time because he told me they don't make the gears like I said earlier.
Also he is to ship it back first and then I will send the refund.

Sound fair guys,

too nice

You're too nice. He had better jump at that deal if he really can't make it work. No money until the part is returned - definetly.

Yeah, they're right.

I tend to be a little bid of a hard-a$$ on this, though. I should be a nice guy more often.
