hey guys,
opinions on different rear ends and what they cost now days? i really need some traction for my BBC c/20... |

Hi,
I am in the same stage with trying to figure out what rearend to use. Currently, I am running a 454 with 450hp/ 500ft-lbs (roughly). People that I have talked to have told me everything from a 12 bolt chevy with 3.83 to a 4.11 ratio, with a eaton posi, to a well built ford 9". So far I have found one company that will tell you what you need based on hp/ft-lbs, transmisson ratio, etc. http://www.moserengineering.com/mose...s.asp?CatID=28 I don't know if it is better to find a used rearend and have it build by someone or buy a new one from a company like Moser. Also, I have heard that if you are going to abuse the rearend go with the ford 9". |

yeah razor,
i get the same info,something different from everyone....i don't need new..just wondering what a good core to start with would be(10 bolt,12 bolt,GMC,BOP,etc,etc)...i don't want to start with something proven to be weak,dump $$$ into new parts, and find out the hard way.... |

I know what you mean; currently I have a 10 bolt Chevy with a stock gear ratio. Everyone has told me that the 10 bolt will not hold up to the torque of the BB. So when I am ready I will sell it and go with either a 12 bolt or 9". I have been able to find used ford 9" for $150, but they are getting harder to find and the ones I do find will need to be heavy modified, because none of them are long enough to fit under my truck. I going to call the locale junkyard tomorrow and see if they have any 12 bolts in stock.

Well, I called several junkyards and everyone around here wanted $150 for a 12 bolt Chevy rear end. Most of them included yanking the rear end for me for the total of $150. I was able to find a 12 bolt out of a 1983 blazer, going to go take a look at it tomorrow. The guy said he had several in stock.

Razor 454, what kind of truck do you drive? Maybe I have seen it around town!!! Moser rearends are the ticket. Although William 70 is in Las Vegas. We can just drive down Portland, Indiana and pick one up.

I own a metallic blue modified swb 1967 Chevy 1/2 ton, I have been driving it for the last 8 years so it is possible that you have seen me. Currently, though I am going through it and hot rodding it. If you go over to the picture section and find the tread "This is my baby" you can see pictures of what she looks like. It’s always nice to find people in the same area with the same interest.
