What's it worth? 68 C10sw,396/TH400,air,tach
My friend has a 68 C10, swb, 396/TH400, air, tach that is solid with a straight body and only surface rust ( the paint is peeling) but no rust through spots.
Everthing is there except the orginal engine ( no engine now) and a couple of chrome trims just behind the rear wheel openings. The interior is in good shape too. Interestingly, it has 396 engine ID emblems with flags mounted just below the front side markers. I know that in 69 GM started putting engine ID emblems that were rectangular and said 8/396. They look factory installed or dealer installed and the previous owner said they have always been there. I would like to know how much this truck is worth right now. Also does any one know how to find out how many like this were produced? Thanks |

I have a 70cst LWB with a 402BB, 400 auto, factory A/C, buckets, etc. My guess from the numbers only about 5-9% of the trucks were optioned this way in 70. I would assume 69 trucks would be close except in 70 GM had the strike which really killed the production numbers. The 396 emblem with flags were not factory. (I don't think) Also is all the a/c components and brackets attached. I payed $3000 for my running truck about 1 1/2 years ago. Very little rust except the bed floor. I am replacing the complete bed (found complete TX bed for $450) last year. A SWB is more desirable then a LWB. If the bed and cab are rust free then that's worth a lot but with the engine missing it takes some of the value away. I would guess $1250-2000 for the way it sits. Lets get some other opinions because I'm likely to be way off on price. Also whats it worth to you. That's the most important item to consider.
Regards, Dewayne 70cst

I would think any thing under $2000.00 would be about right. It sounds as if the truck is in really good shap except for the motor. If you could get it for less I would go for it.

I agree you can't tell the exact numbers on trucks but there are various books which will tell what per cent of options were on these trucks and can give one an approx. numbers.
:ie... C/K CST 6% (29.942)...in 1970 10%, Chrome Bumber 18%, Guage Package , Tach 1%, 396 4%...in 1970 5%, posi 7%, Chrome Rear Bumper 2%, Heavy Duty Cooling 1%, Deluxe 3 speed automatic 10%, push button radio 41%...1970 48%. V8 trucks in 1969 was 281,172A/C in 1970 was 16% I hope this will be of help. Regards, Dewayne 70cst [This message has been edited by 70cst (edited April 02, 2002).]
