The yellow wire is a resistor wire and will not supply your HEI with the full 12 volts needed for proper opperation.

I ran a 14 guage wire from the IGN UNFUSED termial in the fusebox to my HEI, and cut and put some tape over the yellow wire. Dosen't look great but it works.
I'm sure someone else has a cleaner solution.

i followed the yellow wire back to where it is attached to the resistance wire and continued to the firewall plug take neddelnose pliers and pull it out of the firewallplug then run a new wire to the distributor a touch of black silicone on the junction box and it looks like a factory job , you also eliminate the yellow wire to the starter solenoid

The yellow wire goes to the starter, the white cloth covered wire is the resistor wire.
Get rid of them both.
Run a wire from the IGN UNFUSED terminal of the fuse box, or get the power from where the cloth covered wire used to come out.
