Little race with a local C10

Well, since I have my topend apart on my vette, doing a little repair work, I figured I'd take the truck out tonight...So, guess what I found? Of course, another good looking C10 (an 81 to be exact.) I first seen him rollin around, didn't pay much attention, but once I seen him with no tailgate or rear bumper, I figured he was down to race...so I rolled up next to him, gave him a few revs, plunked it in 2nd and nailed it. But by the time I nailed it, he had already nailed it, and mine took a minute to downshift and he was able to pull away from me (pretty hard!) So I rolled up next to him, and asked him "WHAT THE HELL IS IN THAT?!?" which he replies "327 bored to 350." Uhh...haha, I guess someone told this guy a stupid thing..that's absolutely nothing special...because a 350 IS basically a 327 bored over. hahaha. So, again, I put it in 2nd, and THIS time I was more prepared than he was, and I was the one that was able to jump out on him pretty hard, without him being able to get even NEAR me...So, when he pulled back up, he's the one asking "What you got in THAT?!" Which I reply "Basically stock 355." So, he told me to pull over (guess he wanted to check my shieet out more.) So, I pulled over and we bs'd a while. Cool guy, little up top though..kept talking like he was a LITTLE on the ricer side. (Like, how he had his "Stage 2" Flowmasters, and how he was UPGRADING to "Stage 3". ) So, basically his motor was a stock 350, with Performer Manifold/Carb, Dynomax Headers (uncoated) and dual 2½'s, with a TH350. Of course, his engine bay was FILTHY! He had disconnected all the smog equipment and A/C stuff, but it was just all hanging in there...there even was an old oil bottle. As soon as I popped my hood, the guy was all "DAMN! Your sheeit is CLEAN! All new and chrome. (I guess cuz of my chrome air cleaner and valve covers.) He also said "Wow, you really gutted this out didn't you?", and I said "Haha, nope, my dad ordered it with no power nothing, and no A/C. The only thing I removed was the smog pump."
So, all in all, cool truck, prolly the same speed as mine (He had "stock" gears, which means prolly 2.73's) maybe a little slower (or so I think, right? hahaha)
Here's a couple shots of it...

Tim, Tim, Tim. if you're going to make fun of someone's lack of knowledge, you should have at least a clue. you my friend, don't have a clue. a 327 CANNOT be bored out to 350, and it is not any form of a bored out 327. they share a 4.00" bore. had you said STROKED to 350, that is possible. the 327 has a 3.25" stroke, where the 350 has a 3.48" stroke. in order for the 327 to be bored to "350" you'd have to go to 4.125"+, which is not possible on a 4.00" bore block, unless you dont feel the need for cylinder walls.

I would agree w/1faastC10. You don't sound like you should be busting anyones balls about their engine set-up.

Maybe he did the whole 'stage 2' & 'stage 3' flowmaster thing to see if YOU knew what the heck you were talking about?????

Some people tend to rattle off info not knowing the 'truth of knowledge, is in the details'.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Is it just me or do the pictures of that truck make it look like the frame is bent (swine back)? Arched up in the middle, or maby some bad body mounts.

I personally thought the 327 and 350 shared the same bore, just had different stroke, but I asked a friend of mine, and he said that it was a different BORE, same stroke...so I took HIS word for it...guess I was right huh? But the kid said "327 BORED to a 350." But even if he had said STROKED, it still wouldn't make a difference, cuz it's STILL a regular ole' 350.

I just noticed that too..the interior and engine compartment looked trashy enough, so maybe it WAS bent frame...
