Custom door panels
Has anyone done some custom door panels? I have been thinking about doing some and was looking for ideas and tips on how to do it.

You might look on www.roddoors.com they have some kits. They are just blanks you add the rest I think. These were used on Copperhead.

I can make some nice ones, which I have pictures of, including full panels (they cover the sheet metal under the stock panel and matching seatcovers. We have about a dozen or so different designs. I will post some pics tonight.

The panels themselves are made of masonite and/or ABS plastic depending on the application. We are are working on some kicker panel speaker enclosures that are molded ABS.
All panels attach using standard push-in automotive fasteners that are included. Do you have any pics of the Blazer in your signature?

Digger- I would be interested too. I need to get some custom panels made that have black vinyl, and blue/black houndstooth (I have the houndstooth material. This is a idea I had, but I am not sure. I have a 70 blazer, but I think I would like the 71/72 panels too. Whatcha' got??

These are from a '96 chevy truck. We sectioned them horizontally about 6 inches and reworked the tops. Modifications to the door were also done. They are getting covered in Graphite tweed right now. They work great if you are planning on installing power windows, mirrors, and door locks. It was alot of work though.

I apparently deleted all of my photos (don't know why) so here is a link to another thread I posted some time ago with a finished set. I am planning to put a set or two togehter this weekend and will be sure to post some new photos.

COOL!
CB, thats the exact same idea I had for my 71. I was going to get gray ones from a 95 Suburban and do the same thing. What kind of filler are you using for where you sectioned it? And what do you use to re-join the pieces? I was going to cut off the bottom speaker and pocket part to fit the original door panel slots, but yours looks nice in there as is. Great work! Jeff.

red71cheyenne...
We just used bondo to cover up the rivits and fill the small seems. As for rejoining them, we cut sheet metal patches and rivited them back together (check out the back side of the door pannel in the pic).
