Maybe a stupid question...
Is it possible to convert a C10 to a four by four?

If I were to do this, I would buy a rolling 4x4 frame and bolt my truck's body / engine to the frame's tranny / transfercase. It would by far be the easiest way to go about it, even though I'm sure there is some sort of conversion kit somewhere...

I figured getting a rolling 4x4 frame would be easiest.
I ask because I'm going to be swapping my engine tranny for a Olds 425/TH400 ... and I'd much rather have a 4x4 than a peg leg ![]() |

you can, ask 1fastc10 i think he is doing it. it can be done, but like russell said, rolling chasis would be best. i have thought about it, but dont have the time, money or space to do it at the moment.

Would I need to use the tranny from the rolling chassis or would the TH400 work? I'm pretty ignorant of how 4x4's are setup.

The TH400 would work as long as it came out of a 4X4. If it came out of a 2X4, the tail shaft would need to be changed, as they are different between a 2 wheel drive and a 4X4.

The more I think about it, the more I think I should maybe just change my rear diff and keep it a 2wd.
And build a seperate 4x4 ![]() Nonetheless, Thanks for the help! |

pretty much a well equiped truck (ex. tools, spare parts, chains, fire extinguisher, shovels..etc..) with large tires (32" at the moment, maybe 35"s with cut fenders) re-geared axle with locker at some point.... i also have full size spare, with cb, want a Ham radio as well....

I guess it's different when you want traction on ice...my parents 2wd couldn't pull my cavy out of a ditch (only ONE wheel was actually in the ditch!), the wheels just spun, got a 4wd and it yanked it out like a hot knife through butter.

It may have been the tires and the fact it had NO weight in the back...
