Hood Wobble

I am sure quite a few have this problem--- driving down the road and the center of the hood between the braces wobbles up and down. Anybody have a fix for this? I thought about having a brace folded out of sheet metal and tack welding it to the other braces. Anyone?

i did that on my old hood (didn't think it through...) and it warped the hood. now i use a piece of thick rubberized foam and it works great.

I wasn't going to weld to the hood itself just the braces going forward then maybe put a piece of foam between the hood skin and the brace I welded.

Look in the LMC catalogue. They sell the original material that goes in between those braces and the hood skin. Luckly mine still has all of it. You better fix it soon before it causes problems.

If LMC has it, you can get it elsewhere for less.
This won't always cure the problem either, it didn't do jack on mine, I installed these days after getting my GMC (left over parts from my first Longhorn) and it didn't do anything.
I just tell ppl that my engine is sucking so much air into it that the hood is about to be sucked in.

Cannot find my current LMC catalog---went to their website, their website sucks. Guess I'll call them tomorrow and see what they have available

hmm...my hood has a dent in the middle of it, so i thought that was why mine did it. its been doing it for over a year and 10k+ miles, and hasn't caused any problems (knock on wood).

That's just the hood dancing on the sound of the engine
I put that rubber stuff between the braces also, didn't make a difference. Been like that for almost 5 years now.

The hood rubber anti vibration kit is 12.00 with 4 side bumpers included. We keep it in stock for the new hoods we sell locally. It is made in AMERICA not India like LMC.

I'm not a LMC fan. Good catalog for reference period. That hitch they sell isn't even for our trucks. After fighting with it for an evening I called the manufacturer who told me it wasn't even for a 67-72 Chevy.......ugghhhhh. Typical response from LMC was "that is what it shows in our catalog".......

Talking

If the hood has been sat on, (and a lot of them have been), then the stiffner is affected. I would suggest making sure the rubber
insulators are in place and if that does not fix the problem, then weld or bolt a hood brace, (there are two long ones in every hood) from a scrap hood down the middle. Once the brace is in place, stuff rubber foam between it and the hood.

One of the board members did this to his truck and it works and it looks almost factory. We made one for a 56 Chevy car which had a similar problem and it looks great.

I can take a pic of the 56 if you want to see what it looks like.

Mine does it too thought about taking the center sheetmetal out of a hood that is damaged and welding it onto the underside so that it is double thickness. What do you guys think?

All 4x4's are supposed to wobble. This is an engineering design that when coupled with the heat generated by the engine, shakes the snow and ice off the hood.

That is what I was thinking of doing, xcept I was going to have a piece of sheet metal folded up. Don't have an x-tra hood sitting around to scrap out. I have the insulators already in place, and it still wobbled, that is why I wanted another steel brace. I live in snow country, so I want it stiff. Pic would be cool to see
