Hahahaha, took me about a solid DAY! I'd have to say, doing everything, the motor mounts were 100% the HARDEST part. Once you finally got it right, did you give the motor mounts a few choice words? LOL

heres the thing. at first we could only get one side to line up at a time. then when we finally got both sides correct, the bolts would not go though to the other side.

so after about 30 minutes of jumping(exaggerating, more like an hour and a half) we finally got them in all nice and tight

When I dropped the motor in my truck I had to bench press the motor while my dad used an ice spud as a lever to twist the engine into position.

Next time leave the bolts loose intill its lined up. Or leave one cup off and put the bolt in the other one then do the other side.

You young guys sure are funny. LOL

I took the old 305 out of my truck, and dropped in the 350 all by myself. Not one bit of help from anyone, even taking the hood off. The motor mounts can be a tad rough sometimes. Best way is get one side in with a bolt and nut started but not tight. Then work the other side in.

I feel your pain . When i did motor mounts in my 86 with the 4.3 it took forever to line up too, and when i was installing the motor the first time i was cussing up a storm but that job still beats doin the waterpump on a 2.2 litre dodge

rookies

most of my motor swaps/pulls have been by myself as well. i like it that way, because i never have to worry about where someone else's hands are.

I usually have at least one other person to help take the hood off and on. I find the hoods on the 73 to 87 trucks are big and bulky. Or maybe I just dont want to take a chance of droping it. Last time I had my son whos now away at colledge help me. hmmmm he was a little help. My sons better at wrecking chevys then fixing them .

On my 1986 C20, I didn't even take the hood off when I changed the engine myself.

I unbolted the springs, but left the hinges in place. This allowed me to open the hood further than if the springs had been left bolted in place, plus I didn't have to wrestle with the hood by myself.

The 2WD are worse than the 4WD engine mounts.

Mine were a PITA, too when I changed 'em a couple of years ago. Getting the nuts started is the worst. The through-bolts were no picnic, either. I ended up using a pry bar and a hammer to finally get 'em in.

The worst part was when I tried "bumping" the motor in gear to get it to shift and the fan came into contact with the radiator shroud! Man, what a racket...

Luckily, I didn't hurt the fan and just had some minor deburring to do on the shroud. Like Jeff Foxworthy said, "Don't do that no more"... :p

I'm glad I did 'em though. While the old ones weren't split or anything, they were rock hard.
