Radio ant. placement

Finishing up putting my 69 back together, have the new cowl ready to put on. Anyone put the antenna in a different place other than drilling a hole in my freshly chromed cowl?

My condolences on the chromed cowl. Hope it works out for you if that is what you like. The alternatives for the antenna that I know of are under the cowl, under the dash, frenched in on the passenger side behind the door, or in the front stake pocket of the bed (usually the passenger side).
Maybe I'm just too old and out of touch, but why would you either chrome or even want a chrome cowl?

Each their own!
My antenna is behind the passenger seat in the corner can't even see it!

I've also seen side ways under the dash which is cool!

Im not sure who, but there is a such thing as a "hidden antenna" for street rods, that would probably work.

The coolest non-stock antenna that I've seen was the frenched in power antenna in the pasenger side behind the door...like was mentioned by barn9.

I'm with him. The only way a chrome cowl would look good is if the entire truck was chrome. IMO

It makes the eye notice that there are gaps between the fender and cowl, fender and door, cowl and hood, hood and fender, cowl and window...ie, separate pieces of sheetmetal. I thought the designers of these trucks (and all other vehicles) were trying to create the illusion of one solid flowing piece of metal that kicks ass.

But, I digress.

Get a new windshield that has the 2 smal strips up the middle. Reception is decent.

My opinion of the chrome cowl is not good the way I have seen them, just too incongruous with the rest of the truck. If I were to chrome the cowl I would sand and paint the portion that meets up with the fenders and windshield posts. I think that would make it a little easier on the eyes. Just my opinion though.

I bought a hidden antenna to put in my truck, I'm shaving the antenna hole on the cowl. I've seen quite a few people reloacate the gas tank to under the back of the bed then french the antenna where the filler cap would have gone. Rather have both antenna hole and gas filler cap shaved personally. Eventually it will be...

I vote for tying it up under the dash in a horizontal position.

Wouldn't you run the risk of being blinded if the sun hits a chrome cowl at the right angle?

That's another strike against them Lippy. My distaste for them comes from seeing one on a truck one time, I thought it was just plain wrong! However sneakysnake might be on to something, with a chrome tailgate, and maybe some 10" chrome stacks sticking up about 6' behind the cab, it might really look cool.
It's all in fun kwmech, you do what makes you happy, it is your truck.
