yep, been to inliners, am a member there as well, but wanted to be spcific to these trucks, plus I am lazy, want to check just one board. There is also a lot more activity on this board than inleners.

No offense taken road king ! And I will post questions when I get into the job, just thought with all the didsc/drum clubs maybe there is an I6 club. I tried a search, but ended up with a lot of posts that didnt relate to engine rebuilding.

I'll join your club.
Make yourself the president
It would be cool to have others to bounce ideas off of, kind of an unofficial club.

stovebolt is another I6 group. Good luck with the club. Maybe Josh would start a I6 board if you asked nice.

My own opinion is that we don't need an I6 section on our board, but I certainly wouldn't complain if we had one. I come here for body and electrical, and go to www.inliners.org for engine related stuff.

I'm a big L6 fan. Currently working on install of a built 292 [.030-over, crane cam, 1.84 intake valves, rhoads lifters, badger pistons] back into my '68 stepside. I have sometimes felt a pro-V8 bias on this forum, compared to Inliners.Org or the Stovebolt Page, but this one has a more mainstream following. Sometimes it's good to know how the "real world" thinks. They'll never change my opinion, I've been driving the same 292 since before most of them were born. LOL. Sure I'll join a club, I'm already an active Inliner (#4101), but since they upgraded their website forum, I can't post there. It's a problem on my (Web-TV) end. Besides, V8s make better boat anchors -- the extra weight and wide angle help it set in the silt and hook on coral much better than the lighter, flatter L6.

How do you like Hedman hedders?
I have Clifford headers, bought in '78 and run continuously 'til '02 when that engine went down. I had them bead blasted and hot tanked and now they're at a buddy's house for some touch-up welding. I intend to give them a couple of coats of VHT cast iron gray and bolt them back on. There is zero corrosion here in Arizona, my only problems were from dings in the lower end tubes from rock hopping in the desert.
Install is getting closer -- yesterday we mounted the engine mounts to the block and soon will fly in the motor and bolt the legs to the crossmember.

Hedmans are fine, lasted about 3 years so far. Just bolted them on,no mods necessary, dont hang down too low. Thought I would notice more of a difference,in performance, not just sound. It does turn heads when I hit it though. Maybe its because with the o/d I seldom rev over 2500 now?

T5, from an early 80's Camaro, at 60 mph, I rev at about 1800 rpm, thanks to the o/d.

Do you have to modify the driveshaft or shift linkage for the T5?

Linkage bolted up, little tinkering involved, and a junkyard found a driveshaft that was the right length, but don't know what it is from.

I'm set up for the SM465 4-speed Muncie, myself. My partner has an '88 S/10 with that (T5) tranny. We R&R'd it last summer. Then he needed a new rearend. Go figure.
Anyway -- Todays' malfunctions:
Installed new german-made clutch roller bearing ($20 from hotrod shop) in crank end. First one got fubar'd by too aggressivly tapping unit in with sawed off hammer handle. Oval shape of end allowed sintered brass sleeve sides to mush out on ends. It looked defective, so we pulled it. Always a major hassle. Finally used the hacksaw blade method. Take Two: It went in OK behind a 13/16th deepwell 1/2" dr socket with firm but gentle taps on a brass mallet. This one from a local parts store for $15 and USA made... OK now we're makin' time!
We go to hang the flywheel on the crank and I get out my hoard of 3 genuine GM dealer part crank/flywheel guide pins. [About .45 dia.] Turns out the 3 holes in the crank are too big and the pins (well, one of 'em) can wobble out on the block side -- not good. Pin holes on the flywheel side are all too narrow! WTF!
All the more mysterious because the flywheel came off the original engine and went on to the second engine (77 thru 02).
Now it won't fit on the rebuilt original engine again! Did my machinist switch cranks on me? If so why. If not, how come it won't fit?
I'll call the man tomorrow. Sorry for the essay length.
