Just found out my new '72 does not have a 396BB...

Its a 454!

Yup, found the code on the block today. Turns out that it is a 454 instead of the 396 as indicated on the emblems.
Stock, no. Fun, YES!
Looks like I will be ordering some new emblems.

I will post some pictures after I detail the engine compartment a little more.

I see you have some Spinner Caps for your Cragar S/S wheels . Took me a while to get a set of new ones for my wheels, only to later find out that the wheels won't fit well on my truck (rear rims stick out of the fenders, can't have that) . So now I've gotta find a new set of Cragars too!

Blue 71, either way I knew it wasnt stock. I just wanted a fun truck to drive while working on my other projects.
Do you know why they badged the 402 as a 400? Just curious.

Yeah, I like the look of the Crager S/S wheels on the truck.
As you can see, the rear tires stick out a little bit because they are that wide. When these get "worn" out I will probably put a little narrower and taller tire on it if they will fit on those wide rims.

72c10step, I like your Bling meter!
What size rims were you trying to use? If the rim sticks out that far, they must have been pretty wide.

Yup - nothing wrong with a 396. I purchased the truck thinking it was.
I would be happy with any of big blocks 396, 427, 454, 502.
The 402 sounds too much like a small block especially with the 400 emblems. I would probably get people asking how I got the wide valve covers to fit on my small block 400.

with a 454 in it and those cragers it could look like a regular truck with wheels but could be one hell of a sleeper, not to mention the stock taillights help out that effect also, like the truck looks good.

I would change the 8-396 to 6-250 and smoke everyone at the lights! That will give them all something to talk about.

i saw the other post with your truck in it and i was thinking "sweet, a bone stock truck, he needs to keep it that way"

but now that the engine has already been swapped, you just as well complete the molesting----chop the top, shave it, bag it body drop it, and flame it!

Okay, here you go. Some "before" pictures. If it ever stops snowing, I will be detailing the engine compartment this spring.

As you can see, the hood has some nice factory undercoating. That will be comming off. I think the yellow spark plug wires will be replaced as well.
Because of the tall valve covers (roller rockers), I will probably have to modify a bracket to put the A/C compressor back on.

Any other suggestions?

It is painted under the undercoating. I just assumed that it was factory/dealer undercoated because that is how some of my other classic chevys were originally.
No matter how it got there, it is comming off!
