how do you bleed the master cylinder if its in the truck?

Is this a new or rebuilt master just installed or has it been in operation for a while? If it's new or rebuilt, I would pull it back off and bench bleed it first. If it's been in operation already, have someone hold down the brake pedal firmly (try not to pump it) and crack open both fittings on the side of the master about 1/2 turn and when the pedal hits the floor tighten the fittings back up. Do this twice, keeping the reservoir full of course.

Start with the back brakes first and work your way forward.

when I open up the fittings on the MC will brake fluid come out, as it does with the bleeder screws on the wheel cylnders.

Okay, I am confused, coming off the power brake booster their is the MC, but I also see a long slender peice attached to the MC, all the brake lines go to it, what is it, and that is the only bleeder screw I see, is that the one I need to bleed the MC? any body have any pics, thanks

okay, the long slender thing that all of the lines go into is the proportining valve, mine does not have a bleeder on it some do, and some master cylinders do also. What gordo was referring to was the two lines that come out of the master cylinder. But if you have a prop. valve that has the bleeder on it use that, if it is a new master cylinder then usually it will come with a bleeder kit ( two fittings, two clear hoses and a clip, so you could bench bleed it while on the truck. If it doesn't have a bleeder and you don't want brake fluid then I would recomend using the wheel cylinders and bleeding it that way, and as far as starting with the furthest wheel away, I have also read in the Chevrolet Service manual to bleed it from the closest wheel first, so as not to push air into the rest of the lines.
