can i use my tach now?

how do i hook up my sunpro supertach II to my 6AL box???

the tach has 4 wires. in the 6al instructions it says that for sun tachs i would need a tach adapter(#8920)

is there anyway to hook it up without this?

Some after-market tachometers are not as sensitive as others and may require the tach adapter. When the MSD box is triggered via the magnetic pick up wires (like with your pro-billit dizzy) the tach signal may be to weak to trigger the tach. No damae will occur to your tach from hooking it up to the tach output on the MSD box. If the tach operates ok, you won't need the adapter. I have a pro-billit dizzy and 6AL box on my wifes '67 Mustang and my sun tach works great. Connect it as the tach instructions say except the tach lead obviously goes to the box.
When are you gaing to start that thing anyways?

Again, that setup works fine on my wifes mustang.

If you are really concerned about it you could remove your dizzy (Make sure you mark the direction the rotor is pointing, take a screwdriver and put it in the coil wire and lay it on the intake to give a ground path for the spark, leave the magnetic trigger wire connected to the tach and then turn on the ignition. Have someone watch the tach as you use a drill or something to turn the dizzy. You will have to turn it quite rapidly. STAY AWAY from the screwdriver so you don't get shocked. Your tach should respond to the dizzy spinning. Then turn of the ignition, and replace everything. This is not all that hard, I always pre-oil an engine before firing it for the first time so the dizzy is already out.

Feel free to ask more questions if this process is not clear.

So whats wrong with using a timing light with a tach built in for breaking in the engine?

According to the above link you should have a red, white, black and green wires. If so it would be black\ground, red\ignition, white\dash lamps and green\MSD tach terminal.

It should go to any source that has power when key is on. The fuse panel should have a ign space. You could also hook it into one of the pink w\ black stripe ignition wires going to the gauges.

They come from the fuse panel up to the gauges.

yeah, my heavy red and black run right to the battery too.

the small red wire is supposed to be ran to a switched 12v source. i have mine hooked up to the original pink + wire that was ran to the old tach.
