Need Opinions -Please Read - Think I found a real survivor

I have a lead on an all original (right down to the hub caps), 67 GMC long step. I have lots of questions. Trying to figure out if it is worth buying. I want any and all opinions on it, as I want to be sure that it is worth it before I drive the distance to see it.

Is a long step 67 GMC rare? and is a long step desirable?

It has the 6 cylinder , with 4 speed. Are the 4 speeds a strong enough setup to put a crate 383 behind?

What rear end ratio would it likely have?

I am going to look at it and take digital pics next week, as it is on a remote farm site.

It has the original paint, and only 40,000 miles on it. One owner truck, retired farmer, rust free including cab corners. Steering wheel is perfect, the only thing the guy told me was wrong with interior is that the drivers side of the seat has some cracks on the side. Sounds real good to me. Color is white roof top, with red bottom, and the interior is that 67 grayish interior color that alot of them had. Apparantly the original paint is barely faded, as it sat in a shop every night. Runs like a top.

Give me some feedback please!!!! Asking price is $4,000 canadian.

$4,000 candian = what american??? Sound's like a pretty good find and not something you are gonna run across everyday... I would not say the long step is deseribale but they seem to be fewer than the short step's... The tranny would probaly hold up if you were not rodding on it.... Sorry I dont have any answer's to your other question's..

forgot to ask one more question. Is the long step wheelbase the same as a long fleetside. Could I just bolt on a long fleet side bed?

Sounds like a good find, the 4- speed should have the '' granny '' I'd go with a B/W T-10 or Muncie.

20,000 of those models made Chevy so you can use the 1/3 rule to convert to the amount of GMC's made. Also add to the equation that there were only 21,500 GMC's made in Canada in 67.

$4000 CDN = $2,990.65 USD

Exchange rate to US dollar would run close to $3000 dollars. It really depends if you want the truck or not.

As to it being rare that is hard to say. Is the truck rare? Well in the sense of the word that there are not alot of that particular type and set up then yes it is rare. Is it rare in the sense of being wanted more and thus being worth more. Well then no.

i think it sounds like afair price but you need to ask youreself , is it the style you want , and if not could you find the desired truck for cheaper ?

Anyone else have an opinion on the 67 GMC long step I found with 40,000 original miles. If it turns out to be a cherry truck, do you think I should keep the long step box and fix it up, or swap for a long fleet box?

Could the long step box be modified to a short step, as well as frame, or would this be not worth while?

if its as nice as you say, why bother hacking it up to make it swb and taking the six out? i'd just leave it alone.

is it an inline six or a V6?

the 4 speed is an SM420. very strong.

If the truck is as clean as it sounds, I'd say 4 g is a pretty good price... paid 5 for mine, and it wasn't rust free... had new paint and fancy mags, guess I was blinded by the bling... lol...

IMO... don't care for steps, would go for the fleet if I were you

If you want to make it a v8 shortstep, you're probably money ahead to START with a v8 shortstep, or at least a shortstep with a 6!

I would say up there you found a sweet deal, No Rust This is a major plus, According to a guy down here he thinks the long stepsides are worth more money, I prefer short beds my self. If this has no rust, I would think the body and frame setup alone iss more than worth that. Fixing up rusted bodies gets real pricey. JMO

Just a few opinions, nothing more:
1. If you are going to change beds, calculate the cost on top of the purchase price. A good rust free fleet side bed will be several hundred dollars.
2. Long steps are probably the least popular model for these trucks so its value will be best maintained by keeping it original.
3. Having owned a truck with that transmission I would definitely not hook it up to a stout V-8. It will handle the power but is poor if you want to accelerate rapidly up through the gears. Not much temptation to do that with a 6 but rare is the man that can resist it with something like a 383.
4. I suspect the rear end will be a high gear ratio (4:11 or higher) which was great for farm trucks but lousy if you want to cruise on the freeway.
Bottom line: If you like the truck buy it and enjoy it.

If you do buy the truck and decide to put a fleetside bed on it, know this you CAN get a good penny for those bed fenders as they will fit on short steps.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for the money. But as my Pop always tells me.."Don't buy it unless it's what YOU want"

I personally wouldn't hack it up, find sumthin else if it ain't really what you want cause I'm sure they is someone out there that would appriecate a long step GMC in great condition...but a very good find and price I think for a rust free Canadian truck...

You should have no problems with that transmission, my 67 had a 6 cylinder and the 4-speed, but the PO changed it to a 350 and it has held up fine mine also has 3:73's so it accelerates just fine and will handle nice smoky burn outs too!!!

The only thing better than a long step is TWO long steps. If you decide to buy it and then later if you find something better, please keep me in mind.

Thanks.

Well looked at the 67 long step. This was as good as it sounded. It really is not what I want though (I dont want a long Step), and this truck should remain in its stock form, as it is that good. I can't bring myself to buying it and hacking it up. It was rust free.

I took pics, but I am travelling, and forgot my swappable floppy drive, so I will have to wait until I get hom on Wednesday to post.

If anyone is interested in this long step, PM me and I will provide the guys name and number. It is worth it for the cab and frame alone.
