Hydro clutch install?

I was wondering what I need to convert to a hydro clutch on a 1972 Jimmy? Currently I have no clutch setup, and I am starting largely from scratch (Wiring, etc...) so I'm trying to just get everything done at the same time, to save trouble. What vechiles did HEI come in, and how can I tell if a dist is HEI?

An HEI Distributor is about twice the size of the stock distributo and his it's coil built into the top of the dist cap. Then tend to be much more efficient then the old style points distributor. You can get one off a early to mid 70's small block chevy--truck, car--typically about $35. in a junk yard. Don't want the later one's with the computer control.

A hydro clutch would requrie a modification to your under dash pedals, a clutch master cylinder as well as the appropriate designed bell housing, throwout bearing, pressure plate, etc. It is common on newer trucks with later style transmissions. Be aware that most of the stick transmissions do not support a mechanical gear driven speedo cable. Retrofitting on of those transmissions may or may not be feasable given the cost factor. If you have access to a late model stick 4x4 gearbox, matching transfer case etc. you can probably get there but make sure you check out all the hidden probelms like cross member issues, drive shaft issues, engine placement etc. I put in a 96 stick trans into my 72 truck which is a 2x4 and the project set me back about a grand$.
