WTF? K/10 dana44 w/3.07's?

Granted this '72 has the granny low top loader muncie (I think) with a 205 transfer case, how in the hell is it going to turn any tire bigger than a 50 series car tire without smokin the clutch. And I sure as hell don't want to be doin no 200mph on 40" gumbo's.
I wanted to run some 35's possibly 37's since I just put in a 6" suspension and 3" body lifts(guess I'll be takin out that 3" body kit now). And if I opt a gear swap what is the max the current carriers will allow me to go up too?
3.07's(43-14) are what my kids' Smokey and the Bandit T/A had in it.

my 85 K5 had 3.08s w/ a 305 and 700r4 and it sucked turning 35s. couldn't use the od.

carrier brake is 3.73 i believe.

1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone.
1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

3.07 was the standard ratio for all half ton trucks with a 350 engine. Remember that there was no O/D available.

My blazer has 3.07s, with the SM465 4 gear, and 36" swampers...

Its still pretty tractable on the street (I rarely use 1st gear), but then I have a big block...

I intend to go to a 3/4 ton D44 with 4.10s in it, to get the bigger brakes, and the matching stout 14B FF rear. Axle swaps can be done pretty cheap, and if you really rock crawl it, I don't think the 12B rear is up to too much punishment...

If you wanna change gears in what's in there, my friend recently bought a bare carrier, for a D44, and it was only like $35...might look into that, if your side gears, etc, are OK

Those 3.07s are probably what GM called the 3.08, its just like if I do the match from my ring gear then it comes up to 3.40 instead of 3.42, but their just the same.

I have 3.08's in my Blazer and I have no problems

I just had my whole Rear End re-done, and I almost opted to do 3.42's instead, but I didn't want to have to change the front carrier as well. I might do it sometime in the near future.

Your truck has a 12 bolt rear end right? If you go to a gear set 3.73 or higher (numerically) you will have to change the carrier. However, like Jims70gmc said you can go up to 3.73 with the D44 carrier

you do not HAVE to change the carrier-they make thicker and thinner gear sets to put whatever ratio you want into whatever carrier you have-I saw them at moser engineering IIRC

I have a 1972 LWB/465/205 and 35x12.5x15 tires-I just got the truck and it must have 3.08 gears too...kinda silly -except for driving on the interstate

my 70 k10 with 350/sm465/205 has stock gears and 35's. i thought it had 3.73 but maybe i'm wrong. it isn't too bad to take off. if i'm pointed even a little up hill i use the granny low. when i swap out my 12 bolt i want to got to 4.10's or 4.56's, probly 4.10's for highway driving. right now i'm turning about 2200 rpms at 70mph. its just too high
