can u use a low hump cab as a 4x4?
I am rebuilding a 69 swb 4x4. The cab i have is the old 2x4 type with a low hump. Can i use this as it sits (knowing i have to cut a hole for tx case shifter) or do i have to cut out the entire hump and use a 4x4 hump in it's place.
any help woild be appeciated. thanks |

i think you can get by with it-- but you have to use a 2" body lift

The low hump cab will definitely work on your 4x4.
I would suggest cutting out the low hump and installing the high hump, though. Changing the transmission/transfer case is a lot easier with a removable hump. Jim |

It is very simple to cut the floor out and bolt in a hump. A hump should not be too hard to find. You won't have clearance without doing this.

Let me tell you from expierance. If you plan to have any body lift at all, go with the low hump. If you have an automatic tranny go with low hump. This is alot easier than extending your shifters. My host is down right now but when it comes back up I will post pictures of what Im talking about.

Jeff,
We have a 72 4x4 with the low hump cab, no lift, stock cab mounts and it clears. We bought it that way, but we are going to cut out the hump asap. Installing or removing the transmission/transfer case in a low hump cab is a dangereous nightmare. Jim |

i have a 2.5 inch susp. lift right now with a possible 4- 6 inch lift a few years down the road (when i move into a house with a taller garage door...lol)
1 ] will this make a difference? 2 ] if i did a floor shifter (for my 700r4) would there be any complications with that and the tx case shifter on the floor side by side? (i am not sure i will do a floor shifter, i just am curious) thanks again to all |

This is in my 67. After cutting the hump down as low as possible I only have 4" of the t-case shifter sticking out. There is also a long and a short t-case shifter from the factory depending on the tranny. I have the long one.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread..........However, this raises an interesting question. I have a low hump cab and plan on putting a muncie 4spd in my truck soon, can I get away with just cutting a hole for the shifter or does the floor have to be clearanced for the top of the trans?

I just cut the hump out of a 2wd cab that I put on my 4wd chassis w/ sm465 and np205. If you have the high hump it's real easy to drill and bolt on after cutting the hole. I'll take some pics when it quits raining.

I took the tc shifter off when I swapped cabs, but you can see where it goes.
