Question I6 to v8 swap help,,,,,

ive got a 69 chevy short step, I6(250),4speed w/granny low.I've read i can use my original towers in the original position to mount the 350. Do i need v8 mounts on the block, and bolt those to the towers?? I dont wanna use the old 4speed/ and a muncie would be kinda pricey,so im thinkin id go with a turbo 350, easier install $$. ..Also it looks like the top rivets on the frame at the trans/crossmember are gonna be a "pita" to cut off (2 under the cab)do i need to lift the cab a little or will i be able to get at them with the old motor and tranny out, to install the "auto" crossmember. im aware of the radiator/fanshroud/drive line stuff thanks jeff

I can't help out the the motor mount question as I am going to use the V-8 motor mounts with the V-8 towers. As far as the tranny crossmember goes I am going to cut off the bottom of the rivets as flush as possible on the bottom and use an air hammer with a flat tip and just "hammer" them out. If your not interested in keeping the crossmember just cut it out which will get you more access to the rivets. Once I get time I'll be doing mine. Hope it's soon.

I used a cutting wheel and cut the crossmember so i had access to rivets bottom easy top harder , but just cut heads off then pound out crossmember then knockout rivets.its work.

V8 in the 6 position

yes the stock V8 motor mounts bolt to the 6 cylinder stands. I don't recommend this, but to each his own. Messing with the Distrubutor on a v8 in the 6 position is not fun. even with a massaged firewall... just no room. unless you go with a small cap dizzy like a mallory or such. I have had both and I prefer the v8 in the V8 hole... I'm willing to sacrifice what little weight transfer gains there are, for easy tuning and room.
