Pulling engine out of truck with 4" lift?

Anyone done this? I am thinking about pulling the 350 out of my truck because I think it needs to be gone through and check out, sounds like I have some loose bearings, bad cam/lifters, and maybe something else. Seems like it would just be a lot easier to pull the engine and tear it down to see whats up. And maybe up the compression a little with some flat-tops (I think its been rebuilt before, but maybe not the right way).

Anyway, my truck has 4" of lift and 33" tires on it, will a normal 1/2-2 ton engine hoist lift the engine up this high? Or will I need to take the tires off or something and lower the front end somehow? The hoist I was looking at said it could lift up to 7 1/2 ft.

I would personally either deflate the front tires or find some junk ones to put on that are smaller. It is alot easier to put air in tires as opposed to changing them (if you take them off completely), and having it moveable it also nice.

You will need to lower the front end some how (deflated tires, or taking them off). Or remove the front clip (fenders, and core support). When I pulled the motor out of my '77 K20, the oil pan would baraley clear the hood spring. And my truck didn't have a lift then (but I had 33's on it). When I put my new motor in I plan on taking the front clip off (I think there are 8 bolts and some wiring). Mostly for the easy access to the motor/tranny bolts.

If I can get the motor out without having to remove the front slip it would be nice. But I think if I remove or deflate the front tires it should give enough room to pull it. Lucky for me this 85 truck doesn't have much wiring on it thanks to the guy who put this 350 in it, it basically has no electronics or emissions hookups on it, so the disconnecting everything should be cake.

Or, I have a bunch of extra wheels just laying around, I could put a bare rim on the truck and put some peices of 2x6 under the rim to save the concrete and that should get it low enough don't ya think? Basically just set the truck on bare rims?

both of my engine hoists will pull the engine out of my 4" lift 33" tire truck.. one of them is barely, but it does it. If it comes down to it just remove the valve core and deflate the tires

why are you wasting money on the 350 when you're building a 406 for it?

When I pulled the motor out of my truck, it had 32's on it. It wasn't lifted at all, but with the 32's on it, and a BIG cherry picker, I BARELY got the 350 in and out.
