quick tranny question.
My th400 looks like it is leaking where the gear shifter goes into the tranny. Is there a o-ring in there? If there is, how do I change that out? DO I have to drop the tranny pan or what?
Thanks guys.

the bad news is yes you have to remove the pan, then the valve body before the shift lever shaft can be removed from the inside. Then you have a small seal (like a grease seal behind the wheel bearings) that you have to pull out from the outside with a hook or something. Then use a small socket to seat the new seal.
Might as well change fluid, filter, pan gasket, the O rings on the modulator & speedo cable, & install a shift kit(if you haven't yet) while you are in there. Be REAL CAREFUL not to lose the little balls above the valve body. |
