Direct swap. Only issue is the turn signals. In 69 they are integrated in the grille. In 72 they are in the bumper.

It will bolt right in!!! Well, remember that you will need to do something about your signal lights. Also, you will need take a cut-off wheel or torch, and cut (I can't think of the name) the bracket that bolts under the hood latch and also bolts to the outer grill. When you take it out, you will see what needs to be cut. THe bracket is perpendicular to the radiator support. It is just a couple hour job.
Here is what I did with my marker lights. I just tapped the radiator support and put my marker lights in the factory spot, just farther back.

Om mine, it has a 71/72 front end sheet metal including rad support, with a 69 grill, and the hood latch is so far out that the inner grill had to be broken for clearance.

here is something to make the blood boil: at the local jy, the only 67-72 they have is this sad looking '71. The inner grille was perfect, outer had slight dings, I was thinking about buying just because I hardly ever see a perfect 71-72 inner grille, let alone on a jy beater. Well when I went back recently, I discovered that someone had kicked the center and smashed the inner grille. They also broke the perfect windshield and scrathched up the fenders, which were good too. Grrrrr...some people's kids

To do the change over right can be expensive. I was going to do it myself but my existing 70 bumper is in perfect condition, as is my inner grill and lights, so I really don't want to switch and have to buy additional cruising lights as well as both the inner and outer grills AND a new bumper. But I DO think the "complete" 72 front looks great.
Right now, the only ding in my whole truck is on my outer grill. Bradleyworld |

You will have to either modify the center brace or remove it, they also sell new ones now, also the hood latch on a 69-70 and one on a 71-72 are different the 69-70 will be harder to reach with the 71-72 grill because it sets up higher in the inner grille, so when you open it you will have to be careful not to break the inner grill.

I am parting out a 72 on the parts pages.
I have everything you need to convert, center support, latch, front bumper with turn signals http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...threadid=95718 Jay

Did I do mine the cheap way?!
I just used a cut off wheel on my center support bracket. got a billit grill. My lights were just fine, I just slightly modified the bracket and mounted the lights to the rad support. But then that probably isn't the look your going for. I do have a little bit of trouble getting my hood open, but I blame it on the billit grill and trying to reach between the slats ![]()

this isnt only the grill it is everything from the core support forward so it should have the different latch and everything. I will be going back later to look it over once more and probably buy it if the price is right.

I just did one of these. Get the hood latch release and the piece under it and you will be good to go. The hood latch on a 71/72 is offset towards the drivers side so you can reach the lever with your hands. The old one will work, but you can hardly reach it. The piece under it will not work. You can usually get those parts at the same time as you get the grill from the junkyard.
If anyone needs a 70 hood latch or the verical piece let me know. Bumper and turnsignals are a different issue. |
