Cold Air intake on 67-72??

Has anyone ever used anything like this? Would this work on a carburated engine or just efi? Kinda gives it a ricer appeal.
Cold air intake for 67-72 on ebay.

I've thought about putting slots in the front of my hood for almost a "ram air" type of thing but don't want to cut up the front of the hood, and then also wasn't sure about running the hose. How much is this going for on Ebay? (I can't check right now, damn Proxy)

I've always wanted to build one, i don't like the looks for this one. I bet this one has some problem he can't fix and he's trying to unload it on ebay.

cold air

You'll get more power from the cool air effect than the ram air boost at 60 MPH.

I think mine would have to look a little more like this. This is really ricer looking! Color match the tubes to the color of the truck, and it would look good.

Check out Hot Rod or Car Craft Magazines. There is always an ad for a company that makes the carb box part. They are in Eastern Ontario Canada somewhere.

Cold air lets the engine run cooler and more effecient and induced air lets it breathe better which all makes for better response, horse, and torque.

visit any ricer web site and you will find out why.

I've been thinking about building a cold air intake that connects to the cowl area. Anybody done anything like that before?

Just get a cowl induction hood and make it functional. GM invented the "cold air intake" with the Cowl induction hood. I think it would also look better than extra crap to get in the way of a good looking engine compartment.

cool air

The increase in HP at 200 mph from ram air is about 5%. At 60 mph it's probably around 1%. The difference in Hp between the engine sucking hot air from under the hood & sucking cooler air is substantial. It depends how cool the outside air is, but the gain would be more than 10%. Cooler air is denser thereby producing more power.

yea cold air has more qxygen in it, there by better power, like 20+hp, the air under your hood can get up to 175 or even more under there, i like the ram air box, except u killed the lights, perhaps run the ducts to below the raditor, or in the bottom of the inner fenders, or the rad support, these are all open to the cold air. Just some ideas like to cowl hood also. Just my $0.02

I would like to see tests on the one above. I don't think it will help all that much is hard numbers. The dryer hose has too many pleats, this make turbulance. You want a nice smooth path for the air to come in. Turbulant air is not any better than the air inside your engine compartment. If you took that air box and had tubes made for it, that would work. Not to mention, I don't see any air filter unless it's under the box. So you would suck in everything that was in front of you.

Killler pic longhorn !!!!! I was thinking that if you used a thunderbolt style mount for the carb it would fit under the hood... BTW if chapter 2 has any input as to how that set up work's sure would like to hear it!!

I have no info, it is just a pic I pirated when I asked on here about Thunderbolt style cold air induction.
It is sweet...I've drooled over that rig for a couple years now.

Cooler air is worth about 1 hp per every 10 degrees drop as a rule of thumb on the average NA motor, as zoomy says about 1% hp increase at 60 mph from ram air, but only if you put the inlet in a high pressure area. The major increase in any cold are intake is in the design, which allows more air in the engine(less restrictive) my 99 vette pic'd up about 12 rwhp with a cold air intake, which is common on the vettes based on the very restrictive factory intake design and element. Since it was on a dyno there was no ram air effect. As stated before this is a big topic on almost all FI car forums.

Cool This is my set up.

Here is my K/N set up with cold air intake and a caddy box, with less than $15.00 in everything except filter. I bought two 4" couplers and one 4" ninty at Lowes and there you have it. I had the snorkel hose already from doing my 93 Sub.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
