275/40/17's on 8" rim?

It MIGHT work... But I definitely wouldnt run them on an 8" rim. A 40 series tire isnt much sidewall.

You might be better off with a 255/45/17 tire if your stuck with 8" rims.

They will go on there. I planned on running 275/50/17's on mine. They are 8.5", but I ran 275/60/15 on 8" rims for years.

if these dont fit, i'ma gonna be pissed.

i really really wanted to get the nitto 555r's on the back. and the next smaller size in them is 245/45/17s

What's the stock rim width on our trucks? 8"

Because when I bought my 275/60/15's they weren't recommended to go on...but I believe it was still 'acceptable'

I'm going by my memory of the book goodyear had...I think it was recommended to get 9" rims, but they could technically be put on an 8".

Well it is the section width that qualifies it for a wider rim. This keeps the sidewall "straighter". With an 8" rim it will sink in at the bead .5" on each side. And the height of the sidewalls will be 4", so it should be enough to work. Unless you have to mail order them, see if whomever you are getting them from will mount them up for you. If you don't like it, get the next size.

On another note, with more rubber to the ground offered by a treaded "slick" you don't need as wide a tire, so if you question it, you can go down in size.

i dont know about FULL daily driver, but i will drive it more then dave drives his truck

i know the treadwear sucks, but it wont bother me that bad.
i guess if i had to i could get the regular nitto 555's in 255/45/17.

i just wanted to have some traction too.

also, the rims i got, they came with 2 tires, they are 275/50/17's. but i guess since the sidewall is taller, they would have fit better

That is why I was going to get the NT450 275/50/17's. They have the same effective height as a 275/60/15.

Don't expect much over 10K for mileage on 555R's.

I'm running Kumho ECSTA 712 245/40/18's on my wifes 98 and they ride great. I had them in the 225/50/16 and 255/50/16 before the new wheels and got about 40-45k out of them.

A 275-40-17 should be on @ least a 9" wheel. That's the size on my GF's TA w/a 9" wheel & it looks square on the shoulders of the tire. Any less width & they will be 'pinched' @ the bead.

I will also add that IMO, this size is kind of short on her TA & would be waaayyyyy to short for a truck (they're less than 26" tall).

Are you trying to get it to hook? If so, don't mess around w/17's. They make lots of sizes in 15 & 16" DOT stickies. If you got a good deal on the wheels, horse trade them for something else & get a better size for your goals.

yes, i saw a set of some 275/40/17's today and they are WAY to short for me.

i think i'll probably end up running 255/50/17's in the front and 275/50/17's in the back.

yeah, this truck at my girlfriend's apartments has an obs truck, with 10" WIRE rims sticking out and they had 275/40/17" directional tires on it facing the wrong direction:p

of course this is the same apartments where there is a 90ish red camero with a Type-R badge on the sides and back.

but anyway, yeah, the 275/40's are WAY to low profile for a truck.

now i need to find a way to get my front end lower again. removing a lot of that old crap and installing the engine with all its aluminum took a lot of weight off of it. I used to have about an 1" of rake, and now it seems like the front may be heigher

I agree, the 255/50 17's up front (27") with 275/50 17's out back (27.8") will make the truck look perfect. That should give you just enough rake.

I'm running 275/40r17 on front and got 285/40r17 for the rear,work great and there not that low of a profile.
