I have been seeing a lot of articles regarding portawalls being used to achieve the wide white wall look. Does anyone have a pic of how these things are applied? Is this some kind of an insert? or is it paint?
They give the kind of look that you see on these tires

I have never thought they looked that good. The ones that I have seen were trapped between the rim and the tire. They were made like a big rubber disc.

really? hmmm, I have just been hearing about them in the last few weeks. They looks like a cool cheaper upgrade if you can't afford the wide white wall tires

I had a restored 49 f****d and thought of the portawalls but saw a set after a low pressure tire and they get all weird/warped. I just bought a set of regular white wall tires and had them buff the edge out until there wasn't any white. It went from a 1" whitewall to a 2.75" Looked sweet! It was 10 bucks a tire at the local HooRide Shop.. Usually where all my compadres hang out!

They look good from a distance, but if you get up close, they can have a gap between them and the tire, like Rdrdave said.

No biggie Shane. I appreciate any input I can get about these. I'm intrigued about portawalls now but can't seem to find any install instructions on how they are applied and how they look up close.

You can usually find them mounted on a VW. Find a VW show and you'll see them. I don't see many hotrodders with them anymore. Better to buy ww tires. Kids or people on a budget, this is the way to go.
