'70 disc brake swap
I have a '70 K-10 with a dana 44 open knuckle and drum brakes. I was told that the disc brakes from a dana 44 all the way up through 85 would work. any info on this would be appreciated.

I was pondering the same question with a '66.
I would imagine a 66 & 70 dana 44 are the same-yes,no???? |

DennyB, They are different, the 70 has open knuckles while the 69 and earlier has closed knuckles.
The easiest way would be to purchase a 71 and newer front Chevy axle. Could either be a dana 44 or the newer corperate 10 bolt.

I did this to my 70. I scrounged parts from here and there to do it. You need everything from the knuckles on out. Exect the locking part of the hubs. Get 73 or newer axle shafts too.
If I had to do it over again I would just get an entire 73 or newer axle. You will need brake lines either way.

thanks, thats what I needed to here. My front diff was recently rebuilt according to the guy that I bought it from, so I don't really want to replace it with a used one.

Yea, thanks guys. There was a 66 chassis on ebay that I could probably get for $250, but with the chassis mods and then this cost to change over to disc, its probably not worth it for me.
I'll just wait on the right chassis. BTW Bobby, I didnt mean to walk all over your thread. I just thought we could kill two birds with one stone. Denny Last edited by DennyB; 03-25-2004 at 06:04 PM. |
