Have a friend who owns a farm and he's been after me to look at old Chevy pickup behind one of his building . It's a F@rd farm but this was his brothers truck . Anyway finally got down there last night for a look just before dark .It's a 70. Was hoping for power steering or brakes but no go . It did have a good right inner , battery box and radiator support all of which I need Plus right fender looks pretty good and has chrome wing windows . Going down Saturday to tear into it . Now if I could just find time to actually work on my own trucks .

The only reason the farm has Ford tractors is that Chevy doesn't make a tractor...I Know...F**D Motor is not the same as Ford Tractor but it sounded good...

Chevy made a few tractors back in the steel wheeled hand crank days. I guess it never took off.

Yeah, there is no such thing as a Ford tractor anymore.

One of Chevy's tractors was called a Samson. GM purchased the company in 1919. We used to own one of these beasts. It was about the size of a Fordson tractor.

I actually didn't know that F@rd tractors were a thing of the past. Still tons of the old ones around. Did someone else buy them out ?

I think they are manufactred under the New Holland brand now.

yeah New Holland is one of the many, many, many companies owned by Ford, though i like the old 8n and 9n tractors i have learned to settle with my grandads 1937 Allis Chalmers

And New Holland is not an American company anymore.

I believe John Deere is the only American tractor company at this point and they don't even make their small tractors.

wow, i knew that all the engines in the compacts were japanese, but I didn't know that the actual tractor was also?? hmmm...

well at least the "american" tractors look nicer than the actual japanese compacts like kubota, Iseki etc

Nothing wrong with Ford tractors....i have one, 1952 8N and it works rather well considering it is 52 years old. Starts up fine after sitting for months......only real problem i have with it is that it dosen't have live power (the hydrualic lift dosen't work when the clutch is engaged).

I agree with yellowcustom. I have three of the old ford tractors. 2 8n's and a 2n. They seem to run forever with very litlle maintenance. They are still cheaper than a new garden tractor and alot more useful

HEY! Nothing wrong with "Learning to settle", with A.C. After the first few times you screw up trying to rebuild a wet-sleeve engine, you get to kind of like them. Besides, by then you can't afford to get rid of them. lol

The smaller john deere tractors are Jap made Yanmar diesels. Good machines but still an import with the John deere Name.

Cruser71, Correct!!! I have a 1984 model 650 John Deere (14 PTO hp) that I bought new. It has been a great small tractor. Then engine has been zero problems. I mow my 5 acres with it every 1.5 to 2 weeks all summer. I bought a JD because i thought it was made in the USA. Got it home and was looking at the s/n plate, "Manufactered for JD by Yanmar"
