I know lots of people use blazer tanks and fuel cells in the rear of 67 - 72 trucks. I even have an aluminum 16 gal cell laying around. I'm wondering if anyone has tried using the 73 - 87 style side mount tank in a 67 - 72. Will it hit the trailing arms? Is there another downside other than setting up the fuel door?

I'm not sure if one would even fit. The sheet metal and frame are considerably different.

Most people mount blazer/suburban tanks if they're switching -- this works pretty nicely since they were essentially the same sheetmetal.

I believe the 73-86 (non-f.i.) tanks will work with some modification on a truck. Possibly rear cross member removal? I had a '73 Blazer tank that I measured for fit into a '72 Blazer. It definitely wouldn't have worked without cross member removal for that application because the later tank is longer front to back and would have hit the rear diff if place in front of the cross member. Might work out o.k. on a long bed or even short bed? Not sure. Wish I still had it, I'd take some measurements and pass them along.

It's been done. Someone did a 40 gal burb tank in a 4x4. Like was mentioned though, the larger capacity tanks (32, 36, 40) you'll need a longbed and probably a few mods.

Do a search for the tanks (or gas tanks or fuel tanks) and you might find it. Probably been a year since I've seen the one entry on that.

I guy in my town has a 40 gallon Burb tank in his 67 4x4 LWB fit's pretty good. I think Mudder has one in his step side.

Downsides: The straps that hold the gas tank on are notorious for rusting on those trucks. Along with the tanks themselves.

Thanx guys i have been trying to find a larger tank,and i have access to one out of a 84 blazer.Trying to see what FCG can come up with but so far i think he is at about 22 gallons.Sure would like a 32 to 40 gallon in the 4x4.

my old burb had a "50" gallon tank....really held about 45 gallons but it was made for the burb custom don't know who...but have seen others for it set up the same.

The tank itself was made to go around the cross member (the top was kinda "u" shapped) and no straps! there were 4 long bolts that went through the tank (not inside...channels) and mounted to the floor. cool set up...gonna want to find or have another one built if I ever manage to get the rest of the money together for another burb.....
