Big Block Longhorn...

Trailer!

Ok, a bit of story is in order here.
Last Saturday, Da-Burb and myself took a trip to DesMoines, IA to meet up with Joesjunk (and his bud Rick) to collect some parts that I had purchased. I bought a 402/th400 setup that Joe had, and he kindly agreed to also haul a longhorn bed that I had purchased from Kilomanjaro. (these items are planned to be installed on the 72 C30 pictured in my avatar).
After fighting brisk winds (@40mph), we met in the parking lot of the Walmart in Ankeny, IA. DaBurb and I had done some prescouting and found a loading dock that was sheltered from the wind. The 4 of us took the longhorn bed off Joes trailer, and placed it on my snowmobile trailer. (Joe says "I was wondering what a snowmobile trailer looks like..." being the non-Minnesotan that he is!). Then we loaded the 402/400 in the back of my truck and were strapped down and ready to go within an hour.
Of course, no meeting would be complete without several hours of BS'ing and some lunch so we blew over to the local Chili's to break some bread and swap some stories.
Anyways, I have some "thanks" to dish out, so here goes-
Thanks to Da-Burb for riding with and keeping me entertained! Thanks to Joe for another fair deal on good parts and also for the hauling! Thanks to Kilomanjaro for the bed, and delivering it to Joes house for me. And of course, thanks to my wife for putting up with me and this "hobby"!
A couple more pice to follow...

Loaded up and ready to move out.
Did you know that a 1990 K1500 will only get 8mpg when driving 65 in "drive" when pointed into a 40mph headwind?

Meeting board members is awsome...that's all there is to it.
Do you have another rear end for your rig? That rear should have something like a 5.13 gear in it if memory serves.

I do not have another rear end lined up at this point...
It does have the Eaton HO72, so I plan on swapping the center chunk at some point. It does have 5.13 right now, keeping my eyes open for a 4.11 locker. I have a 4.57 available in one of my other trucks, that and overdrive would be a nice setup. Anyone have a slightly used Gear Vendors overdrive unit for a Th400 that they would sell cheap?

Meeting board members is great! I always like the pictures and the stories too. I figured that as long as I have been on this board and enjoying others pictures, stories and knowledge, it is about time for me to start typing myself!

Forgot the picture of me...

DaBurb suggested that I photoshop myself into the group picture.
I decided that I would do one better. Here is a picture of me giving detailed instructions on where I am going to put the "new" engine...

Wow. Gravity in MN must be non-existent. If I recall Da-burb had a burb with that floated with no visible means of support either.

Is there and RPO on your glovebox for those mirrors? Was your c/30 a cab and chassis from the factory?

Never heard of a snowmobile trailer eh? Joe need to get out more:p

I didn't even notice the mirrors. Very interesting. Almost looks like the standard 67 - 70 mirror arm with an extended arm.

That's the 3rd set I've ever seen, the second is here and I had a pair of doors off a municipal truck that had them. I'm thinking all were cab and chassis models

Oh what a good time we had in Iowa!! Even though the winds were blowing at least 40mph!!! I have had several dealings with Chris and they are always good. He came down to my place last summer and bought that black dually from me and I think we BS'ed for about 4 hours!! Chris, Nice pic of you with the black truck also!!

Funny Chris, I got 17.5 mpg on my way home!!!

CPNE, I have those mirriors on a 1970 1ton dually I have here. They are not listed on the option sheet, I believe they are what you got as standard if you didn't order anything optional. And NO, I hadn't seen a snowmobile trailer before!!! I never travel north much, it gets cold enough here!!! LOL!!

CPNE, I will check the glove box, but I dont recall anything on it about the mirrors. They must be incredibly rare, and probably worth more than tow hooks!
If I remember correctly, this is an original cab/chassis truck. I will attach another picture for you of the mirror.

Joe, dont be rubbing it in about your 17.5mpg or next time you will be driving all the way to MN!!

Hate to tell you, but even I find those hideous.

Like I said, I've hardly ever seen them, but the brackets are as I remember from the doors I had which read Town of Dracut MA Water Dept.

Chris,

I'm not familiar with a longhorn. How is it different froma normal 8' bed? Just longer?
Was GM targeting a certain market for these trucks? Any info would be appreciated!
