they fit on over the splined shafts of the wiper motors. there is a special tool I have heard about that will pop them off, but my dad showed me how to do it with a hook and a hammer. you put the hook under the wiper arm and hit it with a hammer away from the windshield, and voila off it comes.

The tool refered to (wiper remover) can be purchased from KD Tool (p/n 2039) for less than $20.

I just used a screwdriver. Lift up the wiper arm all the way and push down on it towards the shaft (this take pressure off from the spring mechanism) Then just pry up on the other side with a screwdriver. Oh yeah, put a rag or toweling around the tip of the screwdriver if you want to be really carefull, but if it leaves any marks it should be the bottom of the wiper arm where it fits onto the shaft... Or just buy the tool
