Talking Huntington Gumption Trap

Any of you out there read Road & Track magazine? Once in a while I grab the magazine to drag to work with me, which I did a few days ago. In the April 2004 issue, there's a great article on page 23 called "The Mysterious Case of the Huntington Gumption Trap" that's an excellent read!! It hits the nail on the head, on the reason why some of the posts on this message board are here in the first place!

Here's a quote "A gumption trap is any hurdle, psychological or physical, that stops you in your tracks and drains you of the energy or enthusiasm to continue".

That's just the tip of the iceberg though! I laughed my ass off at the article - and actually scanned, printed out, and hung it up in my garage as a reminder!

"Gumption Traps" are something Robert Pirsig talks about in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"...cool!

I didn't think I would remember anything from that book

I have subscribed to R&T for many years, and Peter Egan is one of my favorite writers. The April article you refer to is excellent, as usual.

Yup, he also writes a column for a motorcycle magazine, but I can't recall which one.
