What do I do with the steering column now?
Ok guys, my M-20 is almost done being built and I'm going to be putting it in not this weekend but the next. after i take the 3spd linkages out and the handle off the column, what do I put in place of the 3spd collar that goes around the steering column? I don't want a collar that spins around or has an unsightly hole in it from where the level stuck into the side of it. Is there a special solid one that came with trucks that had a 4speed from the factory? If anyone has the part I need PM me with a price and maybe I can get it painted in time for next weekend. Thanks in advance guys!

Are the collars that hard to replace?? I've taken my column apart as far as the steering wheel and that's it. That only takes a couple of minutes. How much further beyond that to remove the old collar and install the new one?

Been a while but I do know you need to pull turn signal switch, flasher, and associated wiring before the collar will slide off. Theres probably a bearing in there too.
Carefull with the hazard switch and wiring.

For now until I feel like tearing all that apart, can I just knock that dowel pin out where the 3spd lever goes into the column and remove the handle? Then take care of the collar later? Otherwise I'm sure that thing'll be in the way.

Yeah, you can do that, the collar won't mess with anything and you'll even forget that the nub is there.

John, if you'd like to sell me a straight stick steering column collar for $10 + shipping to zip code 55369, consider it sold. Do you have any? I'm not a body man by any means so a dent/rust/gouge free one is preferable . I just want to be able to prime and paint it. Let me know John, thanks!
