last minute checks??
okay, tommorow is the day.
(looks at time....) well, in about 13 hours....  i got my electric fans hooked up tonight, they work great. i dont have a temp sensor for them, so for now i'm just using a toggle switch to turn them on and off. the wiring is nice and neat and split loomed. my fuel line is ran. spark plugs and wires are in place. oil is filled up with 7 quarts + filter of havoline 30w. i need to know what ports on the carb i use for what. the tranny gets full vacuum from the intake. the brakes are hooked up to the big port on the back of the carb. the heater vac. hose goes to the intake. and the distributor vacuum goes to any of the ported vacuum plugs on the carb??? how do i know whats ported and whats full? |

After the engine is running you will know, at idle stick your finger over an empty port and if it sucks at idle then its full-vacuum, if you don't feel any suction then its ported and you'll start feeling more vacuum as you open the throttle.

great. i just got all my brackets and my alternator and power steering pump mounted up correctly and bolted down
while i'm at work today, my dad is going to pick up 2 more spark plugs(o reilly's only gave me 6!! but its my fault for not checking both boxes). he is also gonna go get some vacuum hose for everything i need and a bottle of antifreeze. i guess i'll poor that bottle in the radiator and then start adding my distilled water till its full, and then start adding it in where the thermostat housing goes? also, for the idle screws on the carb, i should turn them all the way in, and then 1.5 turns out??? anyone want to see a video of us starting it up? i can have my girlfriend record it with my camera

Set the E-Brake and chock the rear tires for saftey also have a fire extinugshier on hand and start it up outside.
Also the first time you go to start it you should prime the oil system and restab the diss. Other than that i think you have every thing else ready to go. |

I wouldn't mess with the carb until the cam is broke in. I think it would be better without the antifreeze and use just water for until the cam is broke in.

Use water only. And check the oil to make sure you have no water in the oil from a intake leak.
