what frames would be needed to make one

thanks for the reply
thanks for the reply

what frame would you have to use to make one.....again trying to make a short bed 4 door pick up....in the years around 73-86

of coarce you would start with the 4 door crew cab---and a short bed box---same style---hopefully same year....

but as i am not the brightest bulb in the box---i can't figure out a frame----would a suburban frame work...or is that to short....or would it just be easier to cut down a crew cab long box.......trouble with that is i would like to go with a 1/2 ton frame and not a 1 ton or even a 3/4 ton...

the ride between a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton are worlds apart.....

an does anyone know just what year chevy or gmc started making a 4 door short bed.....did they make them in 88-91......

i simply hate new trucks-but need a 4 door pickup badly....i would love to be able to build it all on a suburban frame as i think burbs are the best and most versital trucks ever made.....i would give anything to have the new 1972 custom burb i bought new as a kid for 4,220 bucks in a 4x4......

anyway if any kind souls or talented folks can give me a direction i would appreciate it.....

thanks ever so

your best bet would be to use a crewcab longbox frame, and section out what you dont need.you'll need to take out a foot or so out from between the rear cab mount and the front spring hanger for the rear, and about 8" off the back of the frame. not sure exactly what the measurements are, but those are ballpark from what i've heard. GM didnt start producing 4 door shorties until 99+.

as for wanting 1/2 ton, use the 3/4 or 1 ton frame, and put 1/2 ton suspension on it, no big deal there.

If you can find a single rear wheel C30 with say a 9'0" service body you probably won't have to cut the frame. they also made them in 4x4. It would be model 31003. It will have a 135.5" wheelbase. More common in a dual wheel version, since the SRV is a dually with "dual wheel delete" to "single rear wheel conversion" We had all our 1 ton service trucks that way. Good Luck
