Had to park the old truck (Dang gas prices!)

Had to park the '72 for awhile. Gas is getting too expensive! My '72 has to run AMOCO premium (92 octane). It's ridiculous to put over $30.00 in it and it only lasts 4 or 5 days. So, I dusted off the old VW and put her back on the road. The VW gets @30mpg. It's completely restored and gets as many looks/comments as the truck does. I was going to sell it to help finance the resto on the truck but now I think I'll just drive it. I do miss driving the truck though! And it's only been one day! Have y'all had to switch to more fuel efficient "drivers" too?

I know the feeling Terry, parked the 72 Burb last week (costs me about $20 per 100 miles) so I'm driving my 86 C-10 with the 4.3 V-6. Now I'm getting twice the miles for the money!

Talking fuel prices

hahahahahah if i had to pay this little for gas i would cruise arround for days.... In our country we pay as much as 6.5 us dollar (converted) for just one gallon of gas (and thats for Regular Gas) and we still drive our trucks here.
Almost every week i fill it up for $150 you gotta love these old trucks hahahahahah

HOLY COW! $ 6.50 usd for a gallon of gas? Just when you think things are bad where you are, you find out that it's worse somewhere else. I hope gas doesn't get that high here! I'll never get rid of the '72, but I sure as heck won't be able to afford to drive it every day at that price.

That's why many people in the Netherlands convert their engines to run on propane. It's cheaper. About a third of the price for gasoline.
BadAssChevy502 was a bit high though in converting the price.
A gallon is 3,78 litre, price for gasoline is now 1,22 euro, which is $1,47. That makes a gallon $5,55. Still way to much ofcourse.......

Lippyp, I've wondered this for a while now, how much of a difference is there in a British gallon and a US gallon? I hear of fish tanks being sold as 55 British gallons for instance, what is teh conversion factor?

No kidding!! Went to put gas in today and it had jumped from 1.78 to 1.83... Beginning to feel like Im back in Cali

I cant shelf the burb, but I CAN drive the Toyota a couple days a week.

... And all the while, the locals are whining about peoples "SUV" taking THEIR share of fuel.....

Get a life already!!

Local gas here is around 169 for unleaded I can run anything in my 85 3/4 ton it gets about 9-13 MPG my 72 i have to run premium or it clatters it gets about the same amount of gas mileage as the 3/4 ton .

6.50 a gallon that sucks I belive if gas gets that high ill get some of that synthetic race fuel 112 octane in the 55 gal drums It boils down to like 4.25 a gallon if you buy 55 gallons or at least that was the case 6 months ago .

My truck is parked too.....gas prices are only part of the reason, lol. I'm thinking a 4-banger/5-speed S10 for my next vehicle.....12-13mpg on premium is killing me

Although, the US does still have about the world's cheapest fuel prices....

2.20 ish round here! Freekin 50 + to fill up. You would think some of the truck manufacturers would help to figure out how to help with the gas prices. IT is going to make them sell less vehicles!

Just paid $2.19 for regular this morning. I need to park this beast and get back on the bike (weather's right now), but it needs a major tune up and the shop I take it to is booked thru this month. Figures.

Again, Check out the graph at this site. It isn't OPEC that is screwing us, it is our own fine American Oil Companies. Look at how flat the crude price line is (Blue) and see the jump in wholesale prices and retail prices.

http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/

Park your trucks for a while, save fuel and let the fuel companies choke on it.

My guess is you'll find gas prices dropping in the Sept-Nov 2004 timeframe.

same here ,I parked the 71 3 weeks ago and dug out the old 87s10 . 4 cyl 4 speed and air . I'm getting 25 mpg's with 40 degree air. I will have to dig the old 71 out to take to Pigeon Forge but thats its last long haul for a while or until gas goes down.

$2 here for regular unleaded. I don't have to drive mine anymore as I got my company truck back for driving during the day. I have an 80 mile commute. The 11 mpg I was getting in my '67 was killing me. My company truck gets a whopping 6mpg burning diesel fuel, but I don't foot the bill for it
