'49 Chev 3100 - HELP PLEASE
Im new to the world of trucks, yet I do have a good understanding about them. I am currently looking to but a '49 Chev 3100 (5 window), but I can not seem to find specifications about it.

The engine is either a 216 or 235 6 cylinder splash oiled unit.
The transmission is likely a 4 speed, non synchro The rear gears are probably 4.11's, but might also be 4.56 The brakes are manually adjusted drum brakes(they are terrible in most cases)((my opinion only) It has a solid I beam front axle. 6 volt electric system I dont know what else you want

on this site is a vin decoder when you find the decoder there will be an 800 number for GM to order a "Restoration pack" that has everything you wanted to know about your truck. I got one for my 47 and it is detailed tech info on everything. Just have your VIN number and be patient you will get transferred several times. Good luck |

the stock 4-speed is a mucie sm420 syncromesh transmission
the most common tranny was a three seed column shift syncromesh the 216 is splash oiled but the 235 has a traditional oil pump.
