Stepside Fender

I am finally gonna break down and buy a new fender to
replace the cut out on my stepside. Have priced a few
avg cost 400.00 + ship. Main thing is if I'm fixn to fork over
that much money I want to make sure it fits. Any suggestions
to best place to purchase. Will aslo need bolt kit to mount
it with. I have pulled both fenders off bed. In process of
sanding/primering to get it ready. Also what goes between
fender and bed? Is it seam sealer? Whatever it was that
I removed had deteriorated in some spots others came off
in big pieces dried out etc.
Thanks
Don

Heres a couple Pics of where I'm at so far

I used fender welting between the bedsides and the fender. I glued the welting to the fender and then applied sealant between the welting and the sides before installing. The joint is sealed forever. I am not sure how hard it would be to remove the fenders though! (I don't ever plan on removing them).

I just got a new pair of step fenders from Atheys. Do yourself a favor and get both if you can afford it. I'm very happy with mine, they are perfect!

The reproduction stepside fenders fit great, we use them on our customers trucks with no problems. 350.00 in my catalog. 250.00 for restored oem fenders.

I'm with Jim using the fender welting. I didnt use sealer with mine and have had no problems. You have to use your imagination gettin the holes drilled in it and getting it in place but sure worth the pain. Think I got mine from Chevy Duty.

Don, Tim Christian will be at the Memphis Super Chevy Show on April 16-18. Put your order in to him soon, and you can save on the shipping by picking them up in person.

in regards to what goes between fender and bed,,,,,the factory used a putty type material. 3M makes a product called Strip-Calk (available at body shop supply houses). this is the type of material the factory used. does a great job and I used it on my restoration.

Hey Jim,
If your truck were a year older and a few inches shorter in the bed, that would be my truck. Same color, side mount spare, etc...That thing looks awesome. Great job. How long before you put the rest of the front back on?
